Bartle suggests that Pledger will be RB1

He was just on ESPN700.  He didn’t say that he knew who the starter would be but said that he expected it to be Pledger.  If anyone outside of the locker room knows – it would be Bartle.

I suspect the two-deep may show 4 guys for game 1.  As many have mentioned on this board, we may not know the top running back until game 3 or 4.

I agree with him. Thomas is very intriguing but has been a little slower to pick up his responsibilities. Give him the ball and he “runs mean” but he’s got to be able to understand his assignments and pick up the right guy. Pledger is better in that aspect so far. Bernard is the best all around back (excellent hands) and Curry is a bruiser.

I still think Pledger is the 1 but as Thomas figures things out he’ll challenge him purely on skill set. Bernard and Pledger are our best options on 3rd down unless it’s short yardage…then the other two come into play. That’s the way I see it today.

Also hearing that McKinney is expected to start at the 2nd safety spot. Do you think Cole Bishop will eventually beat him out or just look to find time on the field to spell either Safety at times?

That’s a great question…I think his experience allows for consistency and consistency is what Whit wants. He was part of a very well coached defense at Washington so stepped right in and knew what was expected. Bishop and Latu probably have higher ceilings so it a could be just matter of time before they’re seriously in the mix…unless McKinney doesn’t give them the shot to take his spot.
