For Piland it seems like he wanted something specific like a Military career. He also had offers from Academic schools.  Looking at his size now over 300 lbs I think he couldn’t meet the Air Force standard. Is that even a thing still?  Kid was 295 in high school.

The academies got rid of the weight restriction a few years ago. It was mentioned on another site he left Air Force due to the DOD’s recent decision to not allow cadets to enter into a pro contract. Too bad for them but great pick up for us. The guy’s a beast. I now live in Auburn, CA and I followed his high school career. He dominated everyone from the time he was a freshman.
