Hopefully someone here has more knowledge then me, but how does a receiver catch the ball with only his finger tips without tucking it in, going out of bounds and it is ruled a catch… but when a running back catches it with his finger tips and muffs tucking it back in, it is ruled incomplete. Does anyone know how that rule works?
They gave the explanation on the broadcast. The RB never had complete control. If a receiver catches the ball on the sidelines, he has to maintain control through contact with the ground.
On the play with SC’s RB, he tried to tuck it in but did not maintain control. I wanted it to be a fumble as much as anyone but it was the correct call.
