One of the important factors not being discussed in the movement of college sports teams to other conferences is the logistical nightmare involved with a sixteen team conference. Remember what happened with the sixteen team WAC. That scenario is likely to happen with any sixteen (or more) team conference, especially with the athletic egos involved with “marquee” programs. Since money is the motivating factor, those “marquee” teams will eventually demand a larger share of the conference money pie. These predicted super conferences will likely collapse under the motivation that led to their formation, but it will take a few years for that to happen after they try the sixteen team (or more) format.
