favorite stat from last night’s game

the team collectively shot 90% from the free throw line. NINETY PERCENT!!!

and they didn’t shoot a tiny amount of free throws either. They made 18/20. That is about as good as you will EVER see from a college team.

On a night when the team didn’t shoot particularly well from the field (not terrible either, just meh) they were able to shoot amazingly well from the free throw line.

Rebounds, Turnovers and free throws made often determine who won a basketball game (all those things essentially result in extra chances at scoring points). Utes won in each of those categories. Winning those battles is pretty much the definition of good basketball.

Also, the Utes are #4 in the country in total rebounds per game.

15th in the country if you use total rebounding %, which is probably a better measure since it adjusts for different tempos. Also 3rd in the country in eFG% defense behind Tennessee and Houston. Getting teams to miss and then grabbing the rebounds seems to be working so far 🙂

Team is much better rebounding this year, and have especially reduced giving up second/third/fourth/etc. chances.  When the opponent misses the first shot, most often we are headed the other way with the ball.
