I think it’s a spot on take. We all need to take a step back if we’re cancelling games because a coach complained about officiating in a game with a large foul discrepancy (even if it’s fairly easy to explain why there was that discrepancy.)
Staples replied to the topic They sang their fight song during a Majerus tribute?? in the forum They So Poo Poo 3 days, 7 hours ago
I partially agree. I’m not sure it started out as intentional because we really didn’t waste any time starting up that tribute, but once they knew it was happening they could have stopped … and they didn’t.

Stat lines like this are probably contributing to the 20% decline in NBA viewership this year.

I think our slow-mo defensive substitutions are hilarious and a clever exploitation of the current rule, but it wouldn’t surprise me if there is a tweak in the near future to stop it happening.

Amazing how much better the offense runs when he’s in there.

I noticed that Jayce missed the season opener with an injury. He had injury issues when he was here and unfortunately for him it appears they’ve followed him to Marquette.

I declared Eli Ballstaedt the second coming of McKay McGrath. He then promptly shot two airballs on threes. I stand by my declaration.

That is pretty crazy. That ’04 team was involved in a lot of blowouts that I’m sure skewed the stats somewhat, but still that’s impressive.

ABC/ESPN had the first pick and obviously took Oregon-Washington. Pac-12 Network had second pick and obviously went with the next best game available, Utah-ASU. Understandable from a “of course we take the best game available” approach, but not ideal for national exposure for the conference.

Yep, same PA guy as last year.

Anyone else make it up to Runnin’ Utes night last night (and judging by the amount of people there, my guess is no?) With the caveat that it’s always difficult to make much of anything from these things, I think there’s some promise on the team but don’t see us continuing our run of top four finishes in the conference. We can count on Timmy…[Read more]
Staples replied to the topic Utah Picked 9th in the PAC12 Media Preseason Poll in the forum Basketball (Men) 2 months ago
As usual in the program, development of newcomers will be key. The tougher non-conference schedule could (hopefully) help with that by the time Pac-12 play rolls around. I expect them to exceed media expectations because they do so every year, but not sure a top 4 finish is in the cards this year.

My initial thought was 2004, but that really was before the stat existed. But it has happened twice, 2005 (O-28 D-59) and 2006 (O-34 D-41).

Catch 22 there. He definitely lowers his head and leads with the crown of the helmet to the chest … but if he keeps his head up he hits him in his freaking facemask. I’ve given up even hoping to know what targeting is anymore – except for one case: in no universe was Chase Hansen’s hit against Colorado targeting.

Already happened once.

Absolute worst case scenario would be us somehow losing. Otherwise it’s injuries.

Honestly I could easily see that happening with the Power conferences. Do away with scholarships and the premise of the student athlete and instead college football becomes a true minor league for the NFL. Salaries would essentially be the same value as the scholarships but the athletes could decide if they wanted to avail themselves of the…[Read more]

That 1988 victory was shocking! Up to that point I had never seen Utah beat BYU and wasn’t sure I ever would(I was technically alive in 1978, but 3 year olds tend to not recognize the significance of victories in rivalry games.)
Might still be my favorite BYU game memory all these years later.

Keith Van Horn had a rather epic Twitter rant last night on the subject of highly rated players and Majerus. Suffice it to say, some could handle Majerus and all that he entailed, and others couldn’t. I’m not sure Big Rick would make it in today’s game. Van Horn mentioned David Jackson specifically:…[Read more]
