Heard and felt in Cyprus 200 miles away.  Imagine an explosion in Fillmore or Elko Nevada being heard/felt in Salt Lake.

So sad for this country that has had more than its share of struggles through the years.

At least 50 dead, 2,700 injured.

I’d be shocked if that total doesn’t double.  That explosion was insane.

I saw on Twitter that the power of the blast was 10x the USA’s MOAB (Mother of all Bombs) and 1/5 power of Hiroshima bomb. Insane.

It’s very sad. It reminds me of the Halifax explosion. If you don’t know it: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Halifax_Explosion

So senseless … the way those materials were stored is a well known high-risk situation.  People complain a lot about OSHA rules and paperwork, but this is one example where the rules and reporting in the US do actually work to reduce risk for workers and the general publiic.  Throwing in the political volatility in the region makes it even worse (not a comment on how this was triggered, just saying there was additional risk in that it could be targeted by bad actors).
