ParticipantThis is an advantage of being retired. Here are a few of my perceptions after watching the games for a second time. When you know the outcome of the game – you watch for different things.
– Someone on here posted a while back that Jackson was not good after contact. I would ask, what games did you watch? He was a beast after contact and broke many tackles. I am excited about what he can do this season.
– Yassmin is a monster and very difficult to bring down when he is in the open field. I hope we get him the ball a lot this season. He is the best YAC guy we have.
– We had some creative blitz packages. I know we aren’t sacking the QBs as much as we did 4-5 years ago, but we did lead the league in sacks and sacked Williams 8 times last season. I think he was only sacked 12 times the entire year.
– Hubert was out of position way too often.
– Rising was a much better QB when running was part of his game. (No surprise here.) His passing stats also show this.
– Our rushing defense was simply bad until after the USC game. The worst game was against UCLA IMO. We did well against ASU early in the season, but I am not sure they had much of a running game.
– We will miss Gabe Reid.
– The inconsistency of Tavion Thomas hurt us badly. He had a great season in 2021, but he hurt the team in 2022.
– Our special teams sucked, especially in kickoff coverage.
– Oh, Kincaid was a complete stud. I hope he has a great NFL career! -

ParticipantGood stuff! I’ve said it before and will say it again – our safeties will be much improved with the replacement of Hubert by Ritchie or someone else.
I also believe our linebacker play will be much better this upcoming year. We did improve drastically over the course of the season, but I can’t wait to see Barton with a full year under him as well as Damuni in our scheme.

KeymasterThanks for the comments. I find it hard to rewatch games since I already know the outcome.

ParticipantYeah, I get it. I watch to look for things that I may not have noticed the first time around. It is really hard for me to watch the game where we lost. By the way, I never did this until I retired about 8 years ago.

ParticipantI made the comment that Jackson appeared to go down too easily. I admit I struggle with pessimism, so my perception was likely skewed. I sure hope that’s the case.
I also admit that I’m a bigger fan of Glover than Jackson. I see in Glover a Zack Moss build with Covey moves. It may be a pipe dream, but that’s what the preseason is for.
