Now, most of our recruits are being recruited by top teams. The only two players (I remember) from the 70s/80s we won the recruiting battle for against top teams were Steve Clark in 1978 and Scott Mitchell. Clark was recruited by Nebraska and others. Scott Mitchell was also highly recruited. These are both local kids. We brought in some great out-of-state players like Popcorn Rodgers, Steve Odom, Norm Thompson, Carl Monroe, Eddie Johnson, and others. However, I am not sure if they were highly recruited by top programs.
Mac started changing things in the 90s. We started to land some top recruits. But, more times than not he found diamonds in the rough like Luther Ellis. Mac knew he was a stud from day-1.
