Overall, this first game performance was better than others have been in the past playing against weaker opponents. I think this bodes well for our season. If we improve at the same rate we did last year, we will have a really good season.
I think it is pretty clear that the game plan was to run the ball, maintain possession, and get out with a simple win. Clearly Huntley was prioritizing keeping the ball over getting big plays. I was watching it on TV, so I never really saw how far off BYUs DBs were playing, but Huntley showed a lot of patience and maturity last night. He could have played a little better, but not much. The contrast between his levelheadedness, and Wilson is night and day. I think they are on a similar level talent wise, but Huntley is head and shoulders better upstairs at this point in their careers. The same could not be said of him in the past, he has done some big time maturing.
Also, this defense is VERY good. As long as Jaylon Johnson and other key guys on D can stay relatively healthy, this is going to be a successful season.
