ParticipantSince huntley’s recruiting class, which was what 7 classes ago? We have hit on exactly one HS qb recruit (Huntley), and if memory serves we kind of lucked into him. He was recruited by guys no longer on our team.
if we are being honest with ourselves we have to admit that this staff has zero positive track record when it comes to QB recruiting. Hell, even the transfer guys haven’t shown anything good in that time frame.

ParticipantNot true. The best thing that happened to Huntley was Ludwig. Under Troy Taylor, Huntley was very average. Ludwig came in and took Huntley to a whole new level (was one of the most efficient QBs in the country all year long) that nobody saw coming.
You might be talking about recruiting, but the guys our staff have brought in are much higher rated than Huntley was. So if Ludwig and staff can do what they did with Huntley, then we should be confident that with even better talent they should be able to do good things as well.

ParticipantWTH does Huntley’s development have to do with HS recruiting?
If… that’s exactly what I’m saying. That’s all we have. I’m not claiming brewer/rising/costelli/Jackson… will be misses, I’m just saying we’ve had one proven hit in nearly a decade. The new guys could be amazing, and that would be great. That’s it, that’s all there is to it

ParticipantMy point is that the recruiting has already seen an uptick since Ludwig arrived based on the recruiting services. HS: Costelli, Johnson, Rose all are solid 4 and hopefully soon to be 4* recruits. Transfer Portal: Rising, Brewer, Jackson solid 4* talents.
But the proof is not in the recruiting alone, it’s what happens on the field. And we’ve already seen that Ludwig has done more with the development piece than anyone over the past decade. And the proof is with Huntley. So again, your post is wrong and unfair to the great work Ludwig and our coaches have been doing. Will we see another home run performance from QB like we did from Huntley? Can’t say one way or the other. But based on Ludwig’s recent body of work in recruiting and development, we should all be very optimistic.

ParticipantDuring Huntleys tenure, the Utes recruited Jason Shelley and Jack Tuttle. Shelley proved to be a capable backup when Huntley went down in 18. Tuttle had he had the termerity to stick it out at Utah quite posiibly would have been the starter in 20.
Also your proven hit in a decade ignores Travis Wilson who maybe didn’t live up to everyones expectations but he was a 4 year starter and had a pretty solid career at Utah. He is ranked in the top 5 statistically for Utah QBs historically.

ParticipantAgain we have reading comprehension issues. I’m talking about this staff. The staff that is now coaching. Travis was coached and recruited by a completely different offensive staff.
Also, I didn’t say a decade. I said NEARLY a decade. Huntley was recruited in 2015, class of 16. 16,17,18,19,20,21,22 (the current class). I said 7 years

ParticipantI hate to be captain obvious, but Huntley has been gone for 1 whole year. It would be darned near impossible to hit on another HS QB during Tyler’s time, as he was the starter for the majority of his career here.
The QB position has certainly left a bit to be desired, the room is as stocked currently as it ever has been though.

ParticipantSo if you have an incumbent starter at qb, you can’t expect the team to recruit qbs that could be future solid qb1s? Lol ok bub. Tell that to virtually every other top 30 program.
Like I said before, I’m not claiming the current group isn’t going to work out… just pointing out that this staff has yet to prove they can recruit successful college qbs out of HS.

ParticipantI think the point is that there has only been one season since Huntley left…and the planned post-Huntley starter got injured in the first game of the only post-Huntley season. It is not as though we have been in a multi-year drought of QBs post-Huntley.
Utah has signed a plethora of well-regarded QBs. You are right that they have not proven themselves at Utah yet (although, Brewer has proven himself as a successful college QB). But the complaint seems akin to saying that Coach Smith (of Utah hoops) has not proven himself capable of recruiting a good team at Utah. Okay, correct, but he hasn’t even had a chance to show that yet.

ParticipantHuntleys recruiting class was 2016, I know math is hard.

ParticipantDude…why are you so negative on almost every comment you post? This site and app are for Ute FANS. We are launching our program into places and games we have dreamed about for DECADES. Take your sorry attitude somewhere else. You’d be welcome down south.
As for our QB’s, we have never seen this kind of depth nor this amount of talent. Alex coming in was a gold nugget. Gone are the days where we prayed that our QB1 would stay healthy throughout the season because if he went down, which often happened, the season was over. There will be little drop off between QB1 and QB2. We can now beat them with an arm and our legs from several positions.
If you want to b**** about our program when we’re at this kind of level, delete the app and get off the site and find some other team. We don’t need your toxic fandom anywhere near here nor the hill.

ParticipantYou people have serious reading comprehension issues. Quit putting words in my mouth. I’m not complaining about anything. I’m not claiming the guys we have won’t be good/great. I’m simply saying that this staff has hit on 1 HS qb recruit since Huntley was recruited. Does that mean the current guys won’t be hits? No it doesn’t. Does that mean I don’t like this team or it’s coaches? No. I just choose not to believe in QB/online hype until I see it on the field.I think that is more than fair given this team’s track record

ParticipantThere has only been one post-Huntley season – and the annointed starter got injured in the first game. I agree with the concept of waiting to see whether performance matches hype, but we are not in some sort of QB drought (unless you call a single, covid-season with an injured starter a drought).

ParticipantBy “This Staff” Do you mean Ludwig? Who arrived in 2019?
-
Waybackutefan
ParticipantYes 2019, but lets not forget his recruiting influence is somehow nearly a decade.

ParticipantI believe what you’re trying to get at is with Whitt and having a long history of allowing coaches to be “comfortable” in their positions and mediocre recruiting. We saw it with the LB’s, WR’s, and QB’s. Problem with your take is there are so many layers and years involved with recruiting and seeing the results, that a general attack at of this staff is with all due respect… lazy.
The talent at QB and LB are night and day since coaching changes were made. Bumphis will need more time, but already off to a good start. Ludwig… Wow.
DL, and OL we should start seeing some heavy hitters committing. If not, that’s where I’d look for more coaching changes to take place. But, Whitt has his deficiencies, hanging on to coaches that aren’t constantly improving their position groups can’t be one.
