If, hypothetically, the university had to change its name, there are two viable options:
1) utah raptors
2) Utah Youths but we say youths with a thick Brooklyn accent.
The University of Utah Cutthroats.
The University of Utah Rutting Bull Moose.
Attack of the Utah Brine Shrimp.
University of Utah Great Dinosaur Die Off.
And last but not least
The University of Utah Stormin Mormons.
My vote is for Cutthroats. Just think of the brown and red spotted jerseys and hand painted helmets.
Utah Shoshone
My guess is either the Hawks, Red Tails or Crimson.
I like Raptors or Cutthroats.
Cutthroats sounds really mean and dangerous so probably not viable. Raptors actually are (were) mean and dangerous!
Utah Black Widows with interlocking U’s as the hour glass
Not going to work. Offensive to black widows.
I vote for the D&F Utah Utes!!!!!!!! GET OFF OF MY LAWN!!!!!!
Hoodoos!!
Then we could make some excellent Labyrinth references.
Offensive to hoodoos.
Always been a fan of Moose
Not going to work. Offensive to moose.
This is why I think we go with the Crimson. Unless in this day it is now possible to offend colors.
Is there a mascot that is nameless, colorless, backgroundless, genderless, non-offensive, opinionless, generic, flawless, historyless, non-demoninational, politically correct and woke?
We could just go with “Utah”, although that would be offensive to Utahns.
My vote would be to choose a coyote as our mascot and then call ourselves the U of U Yotes (pronounced like Utes but with a long Oh sound)
I like it
My second vote would be to call ourselves the Utah Wapiti. Still a native American name but our mascot is an elk instead of a tribe.
I vote for the University of Utah Gut Shot Flush Draws.
While I feel like Swoop is silly at times (but kids love him) I would be OK with Hawks if it came to that.
Why not stick with the already tested and completely unique Red Rocks?
