He’s upset because Scalley denied the story Lacey told. He feels like there should have been more of an investigation done on his story. He spoke with the investigators more than once. He’s a single, working father and is now receiving threats. He feels that since Scalley made that joke about native Americans and polynesians, along with the text message, that Scalley admits to, it proves there is a consistent pattern. He then says after reading the reports, there weren’t enough players interviewed about his situation. No one at the University has reached out to him. He still love Utah and wears his rings. He feels the punishment is fair.
He’s mostly upset about his story not being taken seriously. His mother’s address has been exposed and he’s received threats. His words, not mine.

I really hope he hasn’t received any threats. That would be an embarrassment for Ute fans everywhere. Frankly, this whole situation has. Unfortunately, this will never be over for Morgan and the U. It will hang over the program until he’s gone.

Lacy posted an example of the threats he’s been receiving as a result of this.  Two thoughts:

        1.  He is absolutely, 100% right to be upset and angry.  This sort of thing is completely inexcusable.

        2.  A (thankfully) very small subset of our fanbase are utter trash.  If you were involved in this (or know who did and haven’t reported it), then please stop being a Utah fan and never come back.  F**king garbage.

Thanks for the summary. I just won’t listen to PK guy is an old fashioned radio troll.

So he wants to be a victim and to have something corroborate his statement.  Seems fair I guess. Open up the investigation and this time I want an answer to why Shah is able to say that word referring to another player and Scalley isn’t.

Well, it ultimately goes back to the main reason black people repurposed the word. The casual use of the word by black people is meant to acknowledge a shared history and build a sense of camaraderie, which non-black people simply cannot attest to. In fact white people were the cause of this angst.

I understand the obvious cultural presumptions. I am not arguing that. Professional standard or codes of conduct can’t arbitrarily apply to people in a professional setting. It is the whole problem of intersectionality in the work place.

Additionally if the story has remained the same as I understand it. Shah used that word to refer to another kid with a white coach in the conversation. Maybe that doesn’t mean anything but it certainly is confusing to me. Personally it would make me uncomfortable. This is confusion behind that word. I have even heard that used against police officers regardless of the race of the officer

The test I have always used would you use that word to refer to your mother? Then no don’t use it in a professional setting

It’s pretty simple though. White people uttering this word in any setting is, at the very least racially insensitive and most likely racist. Either is not a good look for the U

I’m simply answering your question that you wrote above about why Shah is allowed to say it and Morgan is not.

That’s not how code of conduct and professional standards work. Or maybe it is “supposed” to work.
Lacy even said he doesn’t use that word. Many black conservatives see it the same way.

Polynesians are they able to use the word?

Where are you getting your “code of conduct” or professional standards”. I’ll refer you to my original response which details why it’s ok for Shah to say it and not Morgan

The entire investigation wasn’t to determine if Scalley is a racist. The investigation was to determine if he violated the employee code of conduct.

I assure you Mark Harlan, Kyle Whittingham and the entire administration wanted to know whether or not Morgan is racist. He can be fired for that. He may still be.

That said it wasn’t your original question and it seems we are going in circles.

You seem to not understand how government professional standards or code of conducts work. I tried to explain because we are not talking under the same presuppositions. I know exactly why Scalley a white person is to not say this. I am just asking why a black person did not violate a designed egalitarian code of conduct that is supposed to apply to all people. Regardless of the level of pigment in your skin as an employee.

You are correct I am getting off this circle.

A fair question about Polynesians. Some Polynesians are darker skinned than those we sometimes refer to as black. In that same vein, what if someone has a black parent and a white parent? What if someone has three white grandparents and one black grandparent? What if someone is light-skinned, but majority African descent? If I was not told Bubba Wallace had a black parent, I might have guessed he is of Mediterranean descent. Do we need to get DNA tested to determine who can use certain words?

If you have an egalitarian code of conduct it applies to everyone regardless. That is the point of it being equal to all.

I commented on this as well a day or so ago and have the same question. Why is Shah allowed to say/text the word without any punishment. PK tried to ask a question about this at the presser, but was not delievered very well and Harlan completely sidestepped it.

The word is a racial slur and shouldn’t be used by anyone, period.

Lacey sounds like a whiney little bitch with a victim complex.  But that doesn’t justify threatening him or his family.  If those allegations are true, that absolutely 100% unacceptable.

The fact that he is upset that Utah hasn’t spoken out against the people that sent him the threats is ridiculous to me. The university shouldn’t have to address the actions of a few bad fans. If a guy robbed a bank and was wearing a Utah hat would he want the U to come out against him?
