ASPEN, Colo. – The Utah alpine team kicked off the season with the women’s giant slalom race at the University of Denver Invitational on Sunday. The Utes had five racing with two landing on the podium as Katie Parker finished third in the first race (2:16.29) and freshman Madison Hoffman got second (2:14.61) in the second race of the day. Among other finishers, Katie Vesterstein finished in 17th (2:21.16) in the first race. And, in the second race, Sona Moravcikova finished in seventh (2:17.15) and Michelle Kervén finished in 16th (2:20.66).
Overall, Utah sits in third in points after the first day with 129 points. They sit behind Westminster (200 points) and Montana State (148 points).
The Denver Invitational continues with the men’s side of the Giant Slalom today to close out the Alpine portion of the event. The Nordic portion is slated for 22-23Jan.
For those who wonder, Westminster does not field a Nordic team.
Two “bluebloods” of the college ski world (Denver and Colorado) both got massacred in the alpine events. That’s surprising.
Denver only had one skier yesterday. It looks like their 2020 NCAA GS champ, Storm Klomhaus, graduated. Women’s Alpine Results
