After the games three commentators were discussing the outcome when one of them said that ASU was now in first place in the South. I don’t think that is correct, ASU had a buy this week, they have the same 3-1 record in the south, Utah still has the tie breaker. UCLA has two division losses, so they are 1/2 game lower than UTAH and ASU. If we beat UCLA next week we will have the two worst, by far, than the rest of the Division.
Am I wrong? If so please educate me.

I meant to say if we beat UCLA our last two opponents in the division are the two worst in our division.

Division losses count as much as conference losses. UCLA lost to Oregon so they are one game behind Utah. If Utah beats the remainder of the south teams on the schedule, but loses to Oregon and ASU wins out, ASU is in. If ASU loses one more, they tie with Utah and Utah is in.
This is why people argue we need to get rid of the divisions. Every conference game counts the same, whether it’s against a North opponent or a South opponent.
If the announcers were saying ASU is in first place, technically they’re correct because they would be tied for first with the Utes, the Utes just have the tie breaker to go to the CCG. I believe it was 2015 or 2016 when Utah was co-south division champs with USC but SC had the tie breaker so they went to the CCG.

2015. We were 9-3/6-3 in the south, and lost the south on a tie break to USC, who had a poorer overall record. We ended up in the Vegas Bowl against TSPP.

I may be looking at this through crimson-colored glasses and I know you said IF ASU wins out. (So I know you’re not necessarily predicting that) however I get this feeling ASU has a good chance at two more losses this year. There is something going on down there. I’ve seen the hot-seat Herm article after the loss to Utah, the Defensive coordinator removed a bunch of ASU-related stuff on his Twitter. I think there’s some inner strife happening on that team and I’m not going to be shocked if they lose to USC and certainly not surprised if they drop their game against Oregon State.
