The pressure got to them. Unfortunately, there’s no other way to label such a poor performance.

The Miami Ute replied to the topic BYU lost two football starters to the portal today in the forum Football 2 months, 3 weeks ago
I totally agree. It’s absolute and total BS, and the only reason it happens is because these guys are able to latch on to the label of “student.” To me, if you’re getting paid to do something in affiliation with an university, you’re not really a “student.” I mean, how many college “students” does anyone know who have gone to four universities…[Read more]

The Miami Ute replied to the topic Former 5-star WR to make a visit to Utah in the forum Football 2 months, 3 weeks ago
My point is that the whole “star system” is irrelevant. All of the Bluebloods routinely bring in numerous 5 star and high 4 star recruits. At the end of the season, a bunch of those have underperformed or under delivered and find themselves in the portal. Yeah, some hit, but most don’t, at least with their original teams.

The Miami Ute replied to the topic Former 5-star WR to make a visit to Utah in the forum Football 2 months, 3 weeks ago
Come on guys…we had a guy, Dorian Singer, who was a year removed from being an All PAC 12 First Team WR and we couldn’t exploit his outstanding capabilities. Based on that, I’m not going to lose any sleep whether we are able to recruit some HS 5 Star kid.

The Miami Ute replied to the topic This idiocy with Utah going to the Big-10 in the forum Football 2 months, 3 weeks ago
Going to the Big 10, as currently constituted, would be a good thing, generally speaking, for the U. However, would it specifically be good for Utah athletics? I’m not so sure. I want to think so, but then I see who’s in the Big 10 and the number of quality institutions who’ve been eternal also-rans in that conference.
See, as major college…[Read more]

The Miami Ute replied to the topic Devon Dampier in the forum Football 2 months, 4 weeks ago
He threw for 12 TDs and had 12 INTs. In addition, his completion percentage was only in the high 50s. But, he really shined in the running game, running for almost 1200 yards and proving to be a very, very elusive customer.

What really makes it crazy is that here’s a guy who is never even going to get a sniff of the NBA, making more money than some players on NBA rosters. It’s truly the world turned upside down.

Well, good luck to him in Upstate South Carolina…if he’s getting $1M from Clemson based on his performance last year, he must have a great agent.

The Miami Ute replied to the topic Filed under NIL ruining college sports… in the forum Football 3 months ago
Maybe I’m wrong, but I’ve been following this story, and it’s become kind of a tipping point for me. Agents, holdouts, threats to move on, big time college football has become completely professional without the guardrails that make all of the pro leagues stable, going concerns. So Nico Iamaleava initially signed a multi-year NIL agreement with…[Read more]

The Miami Ute replied to the topic Negative national sentiments coming? in the forum They So Poo Poo 3 months ago
I would agree with you but for the fact that I see no legal way for big institutions to put a cap on NIL. I’m not a lawyer, but if the bluebloods tried doing that, it would surely be challenged in court with threats of antitrust, prevention of commerce, etc…arguments. I always thought that, once the genie was ou the bottle, the potential for…[Read more]

Well, if this Ficklin kid is as good as he’s showing in practice, it might reduce the odds of even having IW on the team.

Thanks for all the comments to my original question. I’m thinking that if this Ficklin kid is more in line with the offense that Beck wants to run, that might really make Wilson redundant. We shall see.

Evidently, he’s a freshman QB who’s made a good impression at camp. Does anyone have any details about him?

The Miami Ute replied to the topic In the portal but on the floor in the forum Basketball (Men) 3 months, 1 week ago
Butler was a bad team in a G5 conference and Utah still lost to them in a neutral (but favorable to Utah) venue. Makes you wonder how this Utah team ever won any conference games at all. Seeing as almost all of their conference victories took place at the JHC, I tend to think that altitude had something major to do with it. The only exception…[Read more]

His play in the last minute of the game would have seen him cut immediately if he was pro…his airball with the game tied and 20+ seconds left in the game is a microcosm of his soon to be short career at Utah.
