No one disputes that the majority of those games were close. The thread is about whether your fanbase is capable of being gracious in defeat. In my experience, which started with the ’88 game, they are not. As a group they are bad losers and even worse winners and every year they weren’t on the schedule was a joy to behold.

The whole 10 game streak was amazing for the number of ways the scoreboard didn’t matter due to the parochial school superiority in a specific statistic.

or the Las Vegas Bowl where the parochial school clearly had the better team because they scored more points the last 3 quarters. That one made it on every Utah article at DN for at least two years.
The parochial school fanbase has absolutely mastered the ability to completely discount their opponents’ effort in any contest

it’s a means to an end. You can’t change the fact that Utah didn’t get into the Big 2 this round so how do you set yourself up for the next one? By consistently outperforming your peers in the current landscape

2008 National Champ replied to the topic Okie St star RB Ollie Gordon arrested for DUI in the forum Football 1 year, 1 month ago
the nickname for Gundy, yes. Because any P4 coach worth his salt, when looking at OSU’s schedule, doesn’t sit Gordon for more than the 1st quarter against SDSU. Prime chance for a “good” win against the defending FCS champs and to get everyone ready for an SEC opponent week two.

Exactly. Clemson isn’t mad that they stacked up CFP appearances while competing in an “inferior” conference. They just wish they had a better GOR.
Utah just needs to handle it’s business and let others pound the table demanding that they get a seat during the next realignment which is Whitt’s entire MO.

2008 National Champ replied to the topic 3* CB Jason Stokes committed to Utah in the forum Football 1 year, 1 month ago
I was responding to the notion that: Lots of the better recruits commit later. I’m actually pleased that Utah is well ahead of it’s historical in terms of # of recruits committed at this point.
With NIL and the transfer portal, I don’t think that Whitt’s plan from the late teens of waiting until the big boys had filled their classes and hoping…[Read more]

It’s a nice theory that there will be higher recruits available late, and Whitt used to be able to get a 4 star or two right before signing day (Phillips, Wilmore). And then there was the ’24 class where everyone on Utah’s offer list committed elsewhere and the last 4 or 5 commits were in the 84/85 range.
I think the only rule is that there…[Read more]

I’m not not @Miami but for every Dabo there’s 10 Jimmy Lake’s. We won’t know if Scalley can handle the job until he actually proves it.
If it were a given that someone who had been with the program for years will always improve upon the previous regime, no school would ever hire from outside.

247 does their best to “deflate” the rankings to account for class size. The highest rated recruit in any class gets full weighting and each subsequent recruit gets a decreasing % of their value.
So if the 10th highest rated recruit for Alabama and the top rated recruit for Utah were both 91’s, Utah’s recruit would contribute more to Utah’s…[Read more]

but for Utah, SC’s 2022 complete rebuild worked to perfection.
In truth, the only difference between what Riley and Sanders are doing is their starting point. SC had a talented roster that Riley was able to add to. Colorado had one of, if not the worst P5 roster when Sanders took over.

I don’t need to ask the players their favourite type of music, it is as varied as the number of players in room. Always has been, always will be.
At the same time, Disney trying to dictate to their audience is a big reason why they are producing a lot of flops these days. So maybe it’s a good idea to produce a movie that makes ticket buyers…[Read more]

I mean, it meets the requirements for a walk up song. but so do Iron Man and Papa Was a Rolling Stone. After that it comes down to taste.

talent acquisition will always be 75-90% of the success ratio for any program and I don’t know how you do that without some contact. So I don’t think you will ever completely get away from having your staff do in-person meetings and scouting instead of just relying on HUDL’s.
If anything I think the need to properly vet recruits, whether high…[Read more]
