Utah had a players-only meeting this week. Micah Bernard said Isaac Wilson said some words that motivated the team.

I agree. When Whitt closed the spring scrimmages to the public I was pissed. But for selfish reasons – I just enjoyed going to them.

But closing fall camp almost 100% to the media has consequences.

I work with some byu fans and have some family members that are good byu fans.

But we all know they have a good portion of their fambase that is trash.

I’m sure they will point out some of our obnoxious fans and sure enough we have them. But we admit we have them. Rarely do byu fans admit they have them – and far more than they realize.

Games like Saturday, as unpleasant as they are, “reset” my mind on this, and remind me of two things: that it is just a game, and that I am sometimes way too emotionally attached.

There is probably some truth to this, but I believe this “worldwide” following by members of the church is way overstated. My guess is that the large majority of members of the church might consider themselves BYU “fans”, but probably not loyal BYU sports followers, but are more “supporters” of BYU the institution, thus not really making them BYU…[Read more]
