I think there’s a few factors
1. We have a bye week after Arizona. So the upside was more if we could get him last week – two games with Cam if he was ready last week. This week means getting him for one game, whereas sitting him gives him two weeks to heal up.
2. Isaac Wilson has shown the ability to win a game against quality opponents,…[Read more]

Being there and watching our safety lined up 30 yards off the line of scrimmage…yeah, it was frustrating how much space we were giving them.
And then the offense just literally running the ball up the middle three times and then punting on each offensive series.
That said….if the plan was to run clock and not turn the ball over (see what we…[Read more]

krindor replied to the topic What do we know about Arizona? in the forum Football 7 months, 2 weeks ago
Agreed that Utah is the better team … But Arizona is so explosive that they’re absolutely dangerous.
Here’s the scenario that scares me
- Lots of 3 and outs for for the Arizona offense.
- One sustained drive for a touchdown
- One big play to McMillan for a touchdown
- One big play to McMillan where they have to settle for a FG
- One short field on…

krindor replied to the topic let’s talk about rising in the forum Football 7 months, 2 weeks ago
Reality is that Wilson is very good and will be stellar in time. But he also threw some ill-advised picks and got bogged down a bit in the red zone.
If Rising is fully healthy (and that’s admittedly a big if), his veteran experience makes the team better. If not, then obviously we’re lucky to have Wilson.
Don’t need to denigrate one to praise…[Read more]

I would presume that the portal would still open for teams undergoing coaching changes. That’s currently the case and this wouldn’t change that

Yup, this is almost entirely a result of Vele looking great and making him expendable. The positive is that Tim Patrick actually looked very good this preseason as well.
Going into the off-season, I’d assumed he’d be cut after two missed seasons and that it might be the end for him. But he looks to be recovered and a high quality contributor, so…[Read more]

krindor replied to the topic My subjective pre-season grades by position group in the forum Football 8 months, 3 weeks ago
I’m actually pretty happy with our CBs….but Keenan Johnson is not a multi-year starter in the SEC. He has 11 starts (less than one season’s worth) in 43 games for Georgia Tech.
So he’s a guy who had recently become a starter in the ACC

krindor replied to the topic Crystal Ball – Nathan Tilmon in the forum Football 9 months ago
I think some will…but it probably won’t be Tilmon just given where he’s currently rated. That would be a BIG bump, more than Ayers normally get.
That said, looking at players as 3 stars vs 4 stars is a bad way to consider it.
An 89 overall player (3 stars) has a lot more in common with a 90 (4 stars) than a 82 or 85 or even an 86.
Stacking…[Read more]

Right now I’d say we have probably the (tied for) 4th best recruiting class in the conference.
TCU and UCF are way ahead of everybody, unless we land Tilmon, Epenesa AND Myles, we aren’t catching them.
Baylor is solidly ahead of the rest, kind of in their own tier. And then us and Texas Tech are neck and neck for the 4th spot and leading the…[Read more]

Blair Angulo now giving the slightest edge to USC… But realistically this one seems like a coin flip (or whatever the three-sides version of a coin might be)

Lots of confidence from Oregon in the last 24 hours or so – they have a few of their different inside sources very loudly saying they’re in the lead on Dunn. At this point, it’s really tough to call. Noise was that Utah was in the lead, but an On3 USC guy thinks they’re in the lead and (like I said) multiple Oregon guys are coming in strong for…[Read more]

I’ve been following recruiting on all those boards – basically Epenesa is really quiet about things and none of those fanbases feel like they have a strong inside track.
Some rumors that Miami is a bit behind the other two…but also rumors that Miami is trying to put together a massive NIL deal that will vault them to the top.
Anticipation is…[Read more]

Some more updates as I look around various boards
Blair Angulo said on 23 July that it was Utah, BYU, Oregon, USC with the in-state schools slightly ahead
(https://247sports.com/article/recruiting-buzz-in-the-southwest-ahead-of-another-busy-weekend-234095720/)Steve Bartle (can’t provide a link since his 247 twitter no longer exists) suggested…[Read more]

Latest I’ve heard is that Utah and BYU probably feel slightly better than USC and Oregon, but that they’re all really close.
Utah is as likely as anyone to get him, but overall odds are still tough
Call it 25% Utah, 25% BYU, 20% Oregon, 20% USC, 10% UCLA/Other. No inside info, just based on what I’ve heard/read

krindor replied to the topic Losing hope for Jerome Myles in the forum Football 9 months, 1 week ago
The noise has been that he was always planning to wait to commit. But he went to Ole Miss and they gave him the “but wait, there’s more! If you commit today you get an extra NIL deal” with the implication that NIL deal wouldn’t be available/promised later.
So he did the smart thing and tentatively committed there right then – knowing that if he…[Read more]

I’d say the odds are about the same as they’ve always been. He likes Utah, but he wants to see Utah make use of WR and there’s LOTS of other options. He’s one of the best players out there (in general, but especially among uncommitted recruits).
He’s going to get offers and attention … but if we want to get top recruits, we have to be…[Read more]
