I was out running errands and listened to local sports talk.  Everyone says, “Utah will be fine this Saturday if they don’t beat themselves.”
If we do beat ourselves, do we get credit for a win? 🙂  How is this different from a Popinga victory?

  • I watched much of their game against ASU.  They moved the ball at will.  Now that they are healthy and more experienced, their offense looks pretty good.  They scored over 60 against WSU.  I think that their defense still has some issues.  We have them at home and will be heavy favorites; however, this game may not be the easy gimme game I thought…[Read more]

  • Our defense has been excellent; however we have faced weaker offensive lines this last month. We will have our work cut out for us this weekend. We should still win that battle up front.  It just won’t be as easy as it has been.
Petersen and his staff has had two weeks to analyze and prepare for Utah. They have looked for any weakness or…[Read more]

  • Fox has Utah with a 54% chance to win.  Early point spreads are 3 to 4.5 for Utah.  This is a huge game for our season.  If we win and do not stub our toe in the last three weeks, we should be ranked about 4 – 7 when the conference championship is played.  If Oregon wins out their ranking will also be in that 4 – 7 range.  The best thing for the…[Read more]

  • We are the number two one-loss team IMO and that could be debated.  Florida has only one loss to maybe the best team in the country, LSU. So, I give them the nod.
Georgia lost to a very average South Carolina team and has looked vulnerable against a number of teams including ND and Kentucky.  ND is just not that good IMO.
    We have looked much…[Read more]

  • On the positive side:
Our offense averages about 30 yards more per game against very similar competition.  We typically have called off the dogs or our numbers would be much higher.
Our defense has shown much better than UW.
UW lost 10 starters on defense this season.
Our defense is on a roll.  UW is not the best offense we have faced IMO. …[Read more]

  • The is the highest it has ever been, but I just don’t understand why it is not close to 60%.  UW did look good in a loss to Oregon a week ago.  But, overall they have not played well.  They looked bad against Stanford earlier this month.
Utah has played amazing the last four games.  We have given up 10 points in the last 14 quarters.  The TD…[Read more]

  • We could be ranked as high as 7th tomorrow. The upset will force the voters to rethink their votes. IMO we should jump the three losers including Oklahoma.  I think we could also jump Georgia and Oregon even if Oregon holds on to win. We beat  WSU 38-13 and OU is struggling and may lose. We beat Cal 35-0 and Oregon scored late to beat Cal 17-7. We…[Read more]

  • That the Utes beat the point spread today.
He said he would not predict that without Huntley, but he heard that TH is playing.
    Go Utes

Bad refs and some stupid offensive play calling by CU in the 4th quarter.
Oh well, I didn’t expect usc to lose tonight.

  • And they are down 17-7 mid way through the second quarter.  USC can score quickly, so they will probably come back and win tonight. However, their defense looks bad and I can see the losing a couple of games.

  • The hit on Moss on Saturday was bad, but was it intentional?

A local fan makes a big mistake by messaging the player with vile comments.

Now, those who hate Ute fans are attacking all Ute fans as if we all had something to do with one guy’s stupid comments. (See the BYU board.  Some of the comments are over the top.)

I am not going to attack…[Read more]

  • Utah is picked to win by 21.5 points.  That’s a lot of points.  In my biased mind and based off what I have seen from the Utes the last few weeks – I think we could cover.  On the other side, Cal has only allowed more than 21 points once this season.  UW scored 19.  Let’s say we did as well as UW and scored three touchdowns and shut Cal out – we…[Read more]

  • With our defense and a Cal depleted offense – we should win this weekend and I suspect we will win by 15 – 20 points.
BUT, wasn’t Wisconsin a 30 point favorite and their defense had only allowed two TDs in 6 games when they faced Illinois last week?  Was Wisconsin looking ahead to the big battle with OSU the next Saturday?  Are we in a similar…[Read more]

  • ProudUte started the topic Amazing stat in the forum Football 3 weeks, 1 day ago

Utah is averaging 450 yards offense per game and only giving up 252.  That is 198-yard per game difference.  That is crazy.  I thought I would compare this to the 2004 team.  In 2004 we averaged 499 yards per game and gave up 343 for a 156 yard per game difference.  That was against MWC competition.  The difference in 2008 (against better…[Read more]

  • He says the only way Cal wins this game is if Utah commits a lot of turnovers.  Their top QB is out for sure.  Their backup (Modster) is questionable.  They have lost 3-4 Olinemen to injury.  They allowed 9 sacks last week against OSU.
I don’t think Utah will get 9 sacks, because they know Utah’s defense would eat them alive if they ran anything…[Read more]

  • I would have been very surprised if he had not won it.
Johnson also played great, but he doesn’t have the stats.  He just made sure his guy was never open.

Cal’s offense is decimated by injury and our defense is playing better than ever.  I have a hard time believing Cal will score more than ten points and a shutout is possible.  Cal’s defense is very good, especially their pass defense.  If Huntley can’t go, we will run, run and run again.  But, we need to pass some or they will load the box.  I…[Read more]

  • Actually there are many reasons we lost to USC.  However, one reason is the schedule. If I was the AD, I would not play FCS teams at all.  If I were to schedule them, I would only schedule them the first week of the season. It’s not a horrible idea to play a lesser team in game one to get the kinks out.
Our schedule this year worked against us…[Read more]
