KeymasterSoooo, I have the Utah Tickets app, which then required me to use Tickemaster… Is Utah Tickets no longer used?

ParticipantI’m sorry, but I still have a bad taste in my mouth about how Brandon Rose was treated last year, especially since Isaac Wilson didn’t win the QB2; Rose was better and further along.
For me, it casts doubt that Wilson is the better option. It’s much more likely that putting Wilon at QB2 provides better insurance against him bolting.

KeymasterBut Wilson tried to bolt and what happened with that?

ParticipantAt this point, if that’s a Whitt decision, then I prefer him retire now than hang around to do more harm than good to the program. There’s a quote out there, “Doing the same thing over and over expecting different results.” That’s Whitt’s philosophy in a nutshell. He’s not doing the team or Wilson any favors if he offered Wilson QB2 to get him out of the portal. I seriously doubt that and think it’s more Wilson didn’t have any takers and was forced to return to Utah, and this time, NIL didn’t force Whitt to given in to his demands. Wilson has earn it now without being given to him on a silver platter. Whitt’s Utah coaching mantra, “we don’t adapt to you, you adapt to us” mentality is not true! We all know Whitt bent the knee to Wilson last year to not only bring him to Utah but forced Whitt to play him in every game when he wasn’t ready. IMO, they’d like people to believe they religiously practice that Utah mantra, but c’mon if we are honest with it, we know that doesn’t hold a lot of weight when your desperately trying to lure top recruits to Utah, especially offensive players!

ParticipantTotally agree on the Rose situation! Whitt just poorly judged his QB room and Rose ability to carry the team. He had no faith in Rose and didn’t give him a chance until Wilson got injured and then had no choice but to play Rose in the BYU game and Rose proved him wrong! Unfortunately, Rose got injured in the 2nd half of that game and didn’t play the reason of the season. But I agree, Rose wasn’t treated fairly or given a shot by Whitt or the coaching staff. Very disappointing!

ParticipantIt’s the least risky option if they are truly similar at this point. Wilson has game experience and would, in theory, be better able to step in during an early season game should Dampier get dinged up. There are also things you can do in practice with Ficklin to keep his development curve if he is getting scout team reps against Utah’s D instead of the limited reps he would get as either QB2 or 3.
If we think back to 2021/2022 when everyone thought Jackson was QB2. It was actually Barnes who came in when Rising got hurt and I don’t think anyone outside the program had any idea he was even on the team. Which would lead me to believe that while Wilson is QB2 right now, the competition will continue throughout the season and Ficklin would actually get the call during games by midseason.
I’m trying my best to avoid any conspiracy theories about what Wilson was promised to get him to take his name out of the portal but I have a hard time believing he wouldn’t have gone elsewhere had he known he could have been QB3.

ParticipantChamp: if Wilson was promised the QB2 spot so he would pull out of the portal, then I would say that Whitt learned nothing from last year (when Wilson should have been QB3, or maybe even QB4), and honestly it’s a pretty damning assertion of our coaches.
My thought is that nothing was promised and Wilson pulled out of the portal because his options weren’t great elsewhere, and Wilson is QB2 for right now because he has a lot of prior game time experience. But if Wilson does come in at QB2, he probably won’t have a very long leash.

ParticipantI was seriously hoping for BF to secure QB2…..Dang.

ParticipantSame, especially since Isaac Wilson has recent history of being given the job, instead of earning it.

ParticipantNate not being in the rotation is not surprising. He’s gotten a ton of mileage off of his HS 100m time. He is a great athlete, but so is every other receiver on the team. He wasn’t a good QB, and playing receiver is about more than sprinting in a straight line.
They may have some special package for him, but any belief that he would be a regular contributor is unfounded.
