  • With our 2024 non-conference games against BYU(9/7) & Baylor(9/14) becoming conference games, leaving us with SUU(8/31) as our only scheduled non-conference game, here is a look at FBS teams with 2024 openings that match our new openings. I’m assuming BYU will be moved to November and Baylor will be pushed back anywhere from 1 to 10 weeks.

    These…[Read more]

  • It’s a bummer, but I will just be relieved when we are officially in the BigXII.

We need to keep our foot in California for recruiting. We should do everything we can to schedule games with San Diego State, San Jose State, Fresno State, Cal, and Stanford. I hope we never play USC and UCLA again.

Back in 2010, there were several insiders on utefans.net giving updates on Pac-10 expansion.

We don’t seem to have any of that with this round of realignment, other than OnlyU – but his info seems to be limited to the football team.

  • UteThunder replied to the topic Question?: in the forum Pac-12 9 months ago

With just USC/UCLA? Probably somewhere between $30 & $40 million per school.

If USC & UCLA had stayed AND we poached OK State, Texas Tech and two other BigXII schools? Between $40 & $50 million.

  • Home schedules with Arizona, ASU, BYU, Colorado, Oklahoma State, TCU, Texas Tech, etc. would be good enough to keep ticket prices where they are currently while demand is evaluated. If demand remains where it is, ticket prices would stay the same or slowly increase. If demand goes down, prices would have to go down, but probably only a little.…[Read more]

You make a good point, but in that scenario, from the ACC perspective, would those schools rather join an established BigXII with a lucrative TV deal (compared to what the Pac leftovers will have) or risk partnering with Pac schools in hopes of a good TV deal?

Obviously, TV contracts would be worked out in advance, but if the top dogs in the ACC…[Read more]

  • Oh my, I hadn’t even considered ticket prices if we’re left out. They will have to drop prices by 50% if they want to keep filling the stadium with that kind of schedule.

  • UteThunder replied to the topic BEST CASE SCENARIO in the forum Pac-12 9 months ago

There’s no incentive or pressure for the BigXII to invite us now. They can sit on 14 and wait to see who becomes available when the ACC implodes.

  • UteThunder replied to the topic BEST CASE SCENARIO in the forum Pac-12 9 months ago

I would think a B1G invite would be most entertaining, or maybe a Pac & ACC merger that resulted in a deal in the neighborhood of what the B1G & SEC are getting.

  • Do Randall and Harlan keep their jobs if Utah doesn’t find a landing spot better than some sort of hybrid MWC/Pac remnants merger?

Please note, I’m not calling for their jobs, just wondering if they can survive such a devastating blunder. Seems like our biggest athletics donors would stop taking calls from Harlan if we get left out.

  • UteThunder replied to the topic BEST CASE SCENARIO in the forum Pac-12 9 months ago

It’s the most realistic and most likely scenario, but this would be the second to worst possible scenario, only surpassed by going independent.

    Best scenarios:
    1) B1G – Not happening
    2) BigXII – looking less and less likely
    3) Pac merges with ACC leftovers when they implode, also very unlikely.

  • With Colorado leaving (reportedly) for the BigXII and Oregon & Washington the next in line to get into the B1G, Utah NEEDS to find their way into one of these two conferences ASAP.

Backfilling with SDSU, SMU and whatever other G5 teams we can find isn’t going to move the meter. At best the Pac will be viewed as the AAC West. In other words, not…[Read more]

Is it just me, or has it gone strangely quiet on the topics of Pac-12 TV deal and possible expansion by the Pac-12, BigXII, and B1G?

    Haven’t heard anything in probably over a week now . . . 🤔

  • On expansion, they will say the BigXII doesn’t need Utah and shouldn’t invite the U because BYU already brings the Utah market and they don’t need two teams from the same market, but then in the next breath they will say the BigXII should invite both ASU and Arizona. 😂🤣😂

It’s like when they claim Utah did BYU dirty by not demanding the Pac-12…[Read more]

  • A coaching decision in the Florida game reminded me of last year’s BYU game.
In Provo, down 10-7 in the 2nd quarter, Kyle took a risk and went for it on a 4th & 2 at the BYU 8 yard line. Had we settled for the FG, we tie the game at 10 a piece and quiet a hostile crowd. As it turned out, we failed to convert and gave BYU a huge momentum swing.…[Read more]

  • A conference of the remaining Pac-12 teams, with the right additions from the BigXII, would have a stronger national perception than would a conference of the remaining BigXII teams with the right additions from the Pac-12.
    Which looks stronger to you?

  • Where are the insiders with info on what is happening behind the scenes with all of this conference realignment talk? I remember back in 2010 on UFN, there were many insiders with updates on what was happening with a potential Pac-10 invite.

  • The more I think about things, the more it seems Utah has only 2 viable options.
    1) Go to the BigXII with at least 3 other Pac-12 teams.
    2) Remain in the Pac-12, but ONLY if the Pac-12 expands by taking some combination of Oklahoma State & Texas Tech along with at least two other BigXII teams.
Only one of these conferences has a chance to…[Read more]
