Actually, the cities already know. The problem is money. The costs are high and the participants pay no fees which means small projects. Our culture is use fees for activities and not much is likely to be collected in fees. Visit Copenhagen if you love bikes. They are a priority over cars. Twice as many bikes and people. Stop lights allow more time for bikes to pass than cars. Snow is cleared from bike paths before streets. Bike paths are off street, paved and have street lights. It would be much easier to relocate there than hope for sponsors and wait for projects to get done. It helps that it’s flat country and the bikes preceded cars.
As an aside, for cars and trucks, there are proposals to tax us by the mile for highways and roads fees using GPS rather than the 19.5 cents per gallon tax. The reason is to spread fees to electric cars. If we went all electric, we have an unimaginable amount of fees to collect a new way.
If we subsidize bikes, could we also do so for skiing?
