First loved the game and worth every cent being there in person. It was Rice-Eccles in Pasadena. Lots to be proud of, definite mistakes and frustration in the game.

I’m curious though, why it was Barnes and not JQJ?  Is JQJ just not that good or prepared?

I’m wondering if we were trying to preserve a redishirt?  I have no idea… just a shot in the dark.

Nothing solid, but my guess is if he had played, it would have cost him this year to redshirt.

My guess is Barnes is simply the better passer rn, and we had to pass.

Pretty sure this is the answer. I only remember him playing in the WSU game and maybe 1 other? I think they felt like Barnes gave us a better shot to stay competitive, which turned out to be true.

We weren’t playing from behind when Cam went out. I don’t think it had to do with better passer. I read something more into it (possible transfer?). In a post game interview with Bill Riley, Barnes basically said he was QB2 for PAC 12 championship.

I thought he would be a good xfactor like when kendall Thompson came in against UCLA. He would have opened up the run game

Bigger concern to me long term is why a backup for Rising wasn’t groomed over the course of the season. Once Brewer announced he was going to transfer after week 3, Rising was the only QB who threw a pass until last night. There were plenty of blowouts and opportunities to get kids experience. Instead Jackson was only used as a runner while Costelli never got a look and entered the portal.

What all of us hoped in August was a stacked QB room ended up being one exceptional QB, two transfers, and a guy that can send signals in. Oh, and the Legend of Drew Lisk 2.0. That QB room needs some serious remodeling before I feel comfortable about 2022 and beyond.
