    Hot Rod was the Wadsworth of basketball play by play. Pure poetry. Walton is like an absurdist poet. You gotta be high to really enjoy his brand of announcing.

      I’m just glad I don’t have to listen to HotRod call Jeff Hornacek “Horny” anymore.
      
      Also, Bill Walton is a national treasure. I never knew so much about the Glockenspiel until he started calling Ute games.

        Can’t mention HotRod without mentioning Ron Boon. Boone was the best/worst ever. Nobody other than perhaps Karl Malone has mastered tying the english language into a pretzel any better.

      Fake news, it doesn’t matter if you are high, drunk, or sober as a judge, Walton is the WORST. The only way you enjoy him is if you actually don’t want to hear anything that resembles play by play, and want to watch basketball while listening to an old hippie burnout talk about himself while pretending to be talking about a bunch of other stuff which does not include basketball. I’m super annoyed that the game overlaps with my son’s HS game, because when I watch live, I sync Bill & Jimmy on ESPN 700 so I don’t have to listen to that jackwagon. Last time this happened, I literally watched the game with the sound off because listening to him p**ses me off and ruins the game.

        And for the record, I know he does color, but he constantly talks over the top of Pasch, who I think is really annoyed at having to work with him, although I doubt he’d ever admit it in any other way than jokingly.

    ESPN has it’s own version of Walton in Teddy Atlas. For some reason they bring him in to call lower tier games, even though he is a boxing analyst. Looks like they he’ll be calling more games now since he’s been removed as a live boxing commentator. Everyone should get ready for their brains to hurt.

  I loved him as a player. However, I can’t stand him as an announcer. Just a major blabbering distraction.
