I was shocked to hear Andy might return. Then I heard about his 38pts/game in the SEC. I’m warming up to the idea…
One highlight:
“Wisconsin was one of just four FBS teams to amass 3,500 rushing yards and 2,500 passing yards during the 2013 season, joining Oregon, Northern Illinois and Ohio State. “

Vandies conference record with Ludwig
3-5, 1-7, 3-5, 2-6… Keep living in ’08 Ute Fans. That miracle year may come back…
Is that because of Ludwig or thstbVandy is severely disadvantaged in the SEC vis a vis everyone else in that conference?
… nice dig , only taking a small portion of his career.. I am not to hype on Andy either , but if it’s between him and Harding , it’s Andy
Andy Ludwig’s offenses at Utah (Scoring | Total | Passing | Rushing) compared to this season:
2005: 36th | 12th | 12th | 32nd
2006: 33rd | 41st | 34th | 54th
2007: 68th | 79th | 81st | 43rd
2008: 15th | 35th | 35th | 51st
2018: 75th | 71st | 78th | 53rd
MWC vs Pac-12
I would be very interested to see what those numbers looked like for A-Rod in 2009 & 2010 vs his second stint as OC with Harding in 2015 & 2016. Might give us a better idea of how ‘impressive’ Ludwig’s offensive rankings actually were.
Just looking at points per game:
A-Rod’s offenses were 34th and 23rd in the country in 2009 & 2010.
A-Rod’s offenses were 54th and 60th in the country in 2015 & 2016.
It looks like A-Rod either took advantage of weaker competition in the MWC or he forgot how to coordinate an offense when he had his second chance in the Pac-12.
I’m not too excited about Ludwig either but to be honest, blaming those records on him would be like blaming Utah’s losses on Scalley.
From his bio
Ludwig’s Wisconsin offenses were led by running back Melvin Gordon, a 2014 Heisman Trophy finalist and consensus first-team All-America. Gordon rushed for 2,587 yards in 2014, establishing the second highest single-season rushing total in NCAA FBS history. Gordon capped the season with a 251-yard performance in Wisconsin’s 34-31 overtime victory over Auburn in the Outback Bowl. Gordon also paced all NCAA FBS backs with 29 rushing touchdowns and briefly held the NCAA single-game rushing record after a 408-yard effort in a November win over Nebraska.
Sounds like maybe he knows how to focus the offense on an NFL running back instead of insisting on a pass heavy offense.
