  As a Ute fan I’m a bit uncomfortable with all this hype. No question Utah is a very good team but Rose Bowl or Playoffs? It’s not just local media but national.
  
  The question is why?
  
  Moss and returning defensive players: Moss was a big deal coming back. IF he stays healthy he would be the main cog of the kwhitt offensive strategy. The Dline will be great and make it hard to run the ball.
  
  But Utah has a lot of questions marks. Oline, Kicking game, LB’s and WR’s.
  
  To me it feels kinda like a wash. I think the Utes will be similar to last year…. pretty darn good. But Rose Bowl?
  
  It must be the schedule, that’s all I can come up with.

  Because Utah almost won the PAC 12 without Huntley and Moss and then 6 NFL guys decided to come back for another year.

  I don’t think the OLine is a question mark talent wise at all. The only question is how soon the chemistry clicks.

  I don’t think the LB’s are a question mark at all. Bernard is good, Jav Guidry is the 3rd LB, really, and is amazing, and Devin LLoyd is an athletic freak.

    I think the defense will be better in coverage and not quite as good against the run at the 2nd level.
    
    Bernard is good in coverage. Blair was a great run stopper but not excellent in coverage.

  I think WR’s will be slightly better, Enis, Nacua, Covey, Thompson, Simpkins being a year older and Jaylon Dixon can fly, plus you had two Frosh TE’s last year that will be good….and I think Kicking will be set up to win and get straight kicks and rugby punts.

  Like you I’m a little nervous. The key is Huntley. If he stays healthy, the Utes are PAC 12 champs. Moss is elite and very important, but the guys behind him are very good.
  
  National media has also cited how their schedule lines up this year. Last year was tough and they lost the CCG by only one TD. This year they return a lot of that team and the schedule is favorable.

  Don’t forget that Yogi Roth got to see them practice and came away really impressed…
  
  He had similar comments last year and the Utes took the South.
  
  Barring injuries, I am a believer that they are going to do great!

  If the hype was being self-generated, meaning it was all coming from the coaches and players, I would be nervous. At the end of the Mcbride era, there were some players boasting in the media that we were going to go undefeated. We ended up having a 6 game losing streak and had a losing season.
  
  When other people are doing the hyping, it puts pressure (good pressure) on the coaches and players to prepare and perform. It’s similar to being disrespected in the media and using that as motivation to prove them wrong.

      I personally think theres too much hype going into this season and prefer flying under the radar , like Washington St is this year . That game worries me more than BYU , looking ahead . But first things first. Excited to get the season kicked off regardless.
