Jensen has the coaching experience but Miller has greater NBA clout.
What PG wouldn’t want to play for a Coach that played the position in the NBA for 17 seasons and is 12th all time in career assists?
Miller is extremely well respected in NBA circles. The Nuggets trust him to develop their young and up and coming talent.
He’s not a loud mou…[Read more]

#5 is sooooo candid. Either he is plugged in and this is happening. Or he is waaay out over his skis.

Yeah because every college football team in America used their 5th string QB to start games the last two seasons.
Original post doesn’t exist if Utah doesn’t suffer fluke injuries the last two seasons.
You don’t need to gut everything and start over.

I second the suggestion on listening to the Josh Grant interview by Spence. Lots of great stuff from Josh such as why Smith wasn’t successful and who the next coach should be and why.
One of best interviews I’ve ever listened to concerning anything related to Utah athletics.

Seems strange to not wait for the season to end. He has been a lame duck since last year. BYU has set a blueprint. Jensen and Bryant are equivalent to Young. Miller has NBA experience and connections. Boosters will step up with a coach that can recruit. No honor code to keep non LDS talent to stay more than 1 year.

This.
You wait til the season is over players bolt.
Get a new Coach named before players hit the portal.
Rip the bandaid off now

Yeah I dont disagree. And along those lines, if losing to 4-11 UCF despite team playing hard devolved into some finger pointing, it can turn in a hurry.

Spence said that Utah matched what Saint John’s offered Deivon Smith in NIL, but he still decided to leave. That right there is some incriminating stuff.

Yeah but, what I’m saying, is that Utah is on the hook to Smith for two more years after this one. Smith’s putative last season with the Utes would have been 2026-2027. Do you see? If Smith was still the HC, next season wouldn’t be his last under contract.

I had that very same feeling LAST year. In fact, I’d predicted 2024 was going to be THE year, all the way back in 2022.
And then we lost our QB in ’23 and ’24.
And now, the guy we got coming in for ’25 is a less talented version of the guys we’d had back in ’03, 04, ’08, ’12-’15, ’19, ’21, and ’22.
Just because we got a new guy, that doesn’t…[Read more]

According to Josh Grant, if you wait until the end of the season, all the players will run for the exits. If you do it before the end of the season you have an opportunity to share your vision for the future and might be able to keep the players you want to stay around.

Not a fan of firing a coach “midseason”. Should have waited until after the final buzzer.

I suggest you all listen to the Josh Grant interview on ESPN700 this afternoon with Spence. I found it to be very enlightening.

I am sorry but 19 turnovers in a college game is unacceptable vs. any foe, but one that has not won a game in 7 straight tries is beyond ridiculous. It is never a great time to fire someone but sometimes you have to rip off the band aid and just do it. This gives us some extra weeks to find a new coach before the off-season kicks in and…[Read more]

If he lost the locker room in a big way, then that could explain it. If I was to read into it from my perspective, Craig just showed no consistency in the lineups and a stubbornness to certain aspects. I’ve mused extensively about how much more I feel like Keanu has to contribute, but yet he just can’t seem to get more than 15 min per game.…[Read more]

had this planned for a minute. Did he plan it before the Kansas teams came to town, but then Utah won those games.
It doesn’t make sense to me.

Utah’s gigantic recruiting and portal class may be considered an overhaul, and I feel the coaching staff deserves the benefit of the doubt. Their response to the Ty and Aaron tragedies was absolutely textbook on how to get through something that terrible the right way.
The past two seasons have been poor, but the majority of players showing what…[Read more]

Whoever the new person is, I just want to have butts in seats. The revenue sharing program coupled with the of new students since 2022 will hopefully help. I’m about as good at collegiate athlete economics as the next couch GM, but this program seems stuck and in desperate need of any enthusiasm to get finances, recruiting, etc. going again.
