Let’s start off with minimal injuries rolling into the UCLA game. Utah is known for going into the season with multiple starters injured. Depth at QB is once again a concern. At least Beck is recruiting players to fit his system. Until Utah can effectively run an offense past 20 yards of the line of scrimmage, I expect we’ll see teams loading up…[Read more]

I shrug about must things in college sports these days.
College sports are now nothing more than horribly run minor leagues for their respective sports. If there was at least some attempt at keeping things fair I would be okay with it. Without that, I have no need for college sports other than nostalgia. I have zero connection to University of…[Read more]

Totally agree. Each recruit for football, men’s and women’s basketball, could be gone in no time at all, more so than ever. It’s not like you’re signing Tom Chambers and Danny Vranes and they will be on the team together for four years.

In war, and in football, expect casualties, if you don’t have adequate reinforcements you don’t have a good army, or football team.

I’m happy about the rush of new recruits we’ve had commit over the last month. This kid from Idaho is an awesome get (and it’s cool to see a top recruit from a small town) and there’s a good chance we get a few more solid croots. But as has always been, it’s not signing day yet and we have a long way. And even then with the transfer portal, it’s…[Read more]

It’s also talent that isn’t decimated by not staying healthy. Cam is a great example of this. He was not healthy for all of 2022. He came out of that USC game seriously banged up and the injury lingered with him the rest of the season (forced him out of the Wazzu game that year and was a big reason Utah lost to Oregon in Eugene as he struggled in…[Read more]

He had good efficiency numbers and he’s the tallest guy on the team though, so he isn’t totally useless. He is also a decent rebounder apparently. Not a bad guy to have on the end of the bench.

Uhhhhh, no team stays healthy. The ones that win are the ones that can cover their losses best.

I guess when you still have open spots this late, you take what is available. This guy didn’t average over 10 points a game at the JC level. I doubt he will see a lot of playing time.

If staying healthy is critical to our offense being successful, we’re in trouble. We will not stay healthy this year. No college football team will. They key is depth and being able to minimize the dropoff when you have injuries to multiple starters, which is inevitable.

These are college kids so no surprise they are doing things most college kids do regardless of an honor code. My problem with the honor code is that they ask the students to police each other. They are just promoting a tattle-tale judgmental culture.

I know of several people who were breaking the School Down South so called honor code by engaging in various kinds of sexual relations, but subsequently lied about their actions when questioned by their bishop, which in my view, is an offense much more serious in comparison.

An experienced O line can pick up blitzes and give the QB some big play opportunities. Throw a running QB in the mix and this offense may not have to throw much. I’m excited about the offense this year. Just need to stay healthy.

Even 40 years ago I would see McMahon with a beer and wonder how he got away with it. LE could have got in big trouble had he got caught not reporting him to the HC. My wife attended BYU in that same time frame and she went to lots of parties with alcohol and drugs. Lots of football players. That was going on and she got turned in to the HC for a…[Read more]

It’s also a different time than 40+ years ago. Everything is online now. Decades ago, it was much easier to sweep that stuff under the rug. Today? It’s all out there – from photos to videos to DMs.

My freshman year of high school the varsity football team won the Southern California championship 33-7, the score would have been something like 45-0 if the 2nd and 3rd string didn’t play much of the fourth quarter. The offense only attempted 3 passes the entire game, I recall one or two passes were safe dump offs about 5 yards down field. Four…[Read more]

I don’t think the folks at South Temple turned a blind eye to JMac. I think Lavel and staff did everything they could to hide what he was doing until he played his final game for BYU. I believe that the leaders in SLC were told that everything is fine. They want to open their flagship university to non-members because they can be a positive…[Read more]

Not really. It’s only “half a season”, and he doesn’t even have to disenroll. Had he not opted to leave on his own, he could have taken as many classes as he would have wanted.
He got a light slap on the wrist for an offense that would have led to a 1-yr disenrollment for any of the other “regular” students at…[Read more]

There are 8 billionaires in the state – 4 of them have ties to byu (Flat brim, his brother, his dad, and one of the two scumbags who run PACS [who are in hot water with the government]) with the crumbl guy not far behind. If they pooled their money to endow an NIL fund collectively of 500 million they could conceivably easily afford $20 million a…[Read more]
