Honestly, I’m going to tell you what I told BYU football fans for so many years when they were fixated on their success in the 1970s, 80s and a chunk of the 90s: I don’t care. It’s not relevant to me what a program did 30 years ago. If you have to reach back that far, you’re losing the argument and you look desperate doing it.
When was the last…[Read more]

Re-read what I put. I said I don’t understand how someone can look at the last 25 years and claim Utah is of better stature than BYU. That’s not the same as saying in the last 25 years, BYU is better.
But again, it’s kind weird that you guys keep getting stuck on BYU. BYU is only part of the equation. I’ve also mentioned Colorado and SDSU (as…[Read more]

Charlie replied to the topic How often do 2nd-string OL players see the field? in the forum Football 1 week, 3 days ago
I was wondering the same. Another possibility would be to completely sub out the OL in game situations when the Utah win is no longer in doubt. Hopefully that is the case near the end of several games with the most sets in Provo.

OL rarely rotate except in the situations you identified.

I would hope they had more success. They played 3 or 4 tough games a year. Winning 20 games playing WCC competition does not make you a better program. Utah was playing a much harder schedule. Would BYU have done better than Utah in the Pac 12? To say BYU has been better the past 25 years is ridiculous. No arguement that Utah has been down but…[Read more]

@BeachUte you’re missing the point. But I will play along because zoobs tend to forget history.
BYU overall basketball win % .629%. Utah .635%.
NCAA tournament appearances BYU 32, Utah 29.
Final Fours BYU, 0 Utah 4.
Championships BYU 0 Utah 1(1944).
Ranking in the AP Poll preseason, Final and Weeks, BYU 6,13,159. Utah 9,21,239 weeks.…[Read more]

I never said they were on par with Gonzaga? I But it’s undeniable BYU has had more success than Utah the last 15 or so years. Hell, it’s almost been a decade since the Runnin’ Utes even made the NCAAs. I don’t understand how anyone can look at what Utah has done the last 25 years and claim the program has a better stature than BYU, Colorado and…[Read more]

Al also said, “The opposing QB must get hit and taken down”. Starts with Defense. That being said, if the Offense sucks again, 7-5 is a ceiling.

You saying BYU is on par with Gonzaga based on the past 15 years? BYU was in the worst league with Gonzaga. Other than this past year when was the last time BYU made it past the first round of the tournament? No doubt an influx of NIL money has catapulted them in to national spotlight. As bad as Utah BB has been I don’t see any separation b…[Read more]

Will 2nd string OL guys only see the field if there are injuries or garbage time, or will they rotate in while the starters are healthy?
A Google search told me that, unlike a D-Line where freshness is the top priority, O-Lines thrive on coordination. That is, it’s better to have the same five O-Linemen in for a whole drive than to sub in a f…[Read more]

Are these programs lesser stature? Colorado, BYU, Gonzaga and SDSU have all done significantly more over the last 15 years than Utah has – at least on a consistent basis. In the last 15 years, Utah has two MCAA Tournament appearances. Colorado has six. BYU has eight appearances. SDSU has 12 (including a title game appearance). Hell, USU has seven…[Read more]

We are 26 days from Utah Football. I’ll be firing up the first Predict the Score contest (UCLA) soon, as well as getting all of the Pick Em games for week one ready to pick. I’m looking forward to another season of “fun” (well, last season wasn’t that fun).
SPONSORS NEEDED
I’m looking for sponsors for each of the games, or if someone is willing…[Read more]

Yeah, in 2023 the ticket office charged $25 extra to print paper tickets. Last year, they wanted $50.
Very customer-unfriendly. -

After the last two football seasons, you could make the case that things are trending in that direction as well.
I just read an article in “The Athletic” where the author, a guy called Jim Root, did a thought experiment and completely realigned all 364 MBB teams in new conferences. (If you have The Athletic, you can find the article here: What…[Read more]

In my opinion the Utes have a 50% chance of going 7-5, 20% of 8-4, 10% of 9-3 and 10% of less than 7-5. My main concern is defensive tackle. The Utes struggled more than normal against the run a year ago and right now they do not have the 4 guys they will need to fill those spots. Some guys who have not seen the field will need to show out.

BeachUte replied to the topic As the great philosopher Al Davis once said: in the forum Football 1 week, 4 days ago
My expectations are lower because Utah is coming off a 5-7 season where they won all of two Big 12 games. The O/U on Utah is about 7.5 wins, right? I think that’s likely where they’ll fall – either 7 or 8 wins. So, Utah going 8-5 and grabbing a win down in Provo would be a successful season in my book because it met the overall expectations.…[Read more]

Utah can have a successful season without making the championship game but we also don’t have to set our sights so low as to hope for 6-6 with a win over BYU.
For me, 9 wins or more will be a successful season.
