AJ Dybantsa and Cooper Flagg are the only two NCAA basketball players I’ve seen with an NIL valuation exceeding $2 million. I might be mistaken, I’m trying to understand NIL, as it seems to be one of the key metrics for any college program. I also saw that Cameron Boozer, the son of Carlos Boozer, signed a $1.5 million NIL deal, and he is con…[Read more]

Frankly, I couldn’t care less what BYU is doing or how much money they are spending on their program.
What I care about is Utah getting the right guys in place, accumulating new economic support for the program and trusting the experts up there decide how to best compete. They don’t need our advice on how to do that.
I get where you’re coming…[Read more]

I like how he upvoted himself.

It’s been a not-so-secret fact that if Jensen is hired to be head coach the whales will open their piggy banks.

Let’s focus on the positive of today. Tripling is an amazing start. Getting someone of Alex intelligence and experience is massive. And Andre soon. Those alone will pay massive dividends. In wins and NIL. I don’t care about TDS. Today is a great day to be a Ute and the future is bright.

Not only that, but how is Utah headed for 10-14 seasons? The XII plays 20-gane league schedules, not 24-game schedules. It wouldn’t be overall, either. Every season we play at least 30 games.
I think the cognitive abilities of Cali Man is unquestionably in decline.

But he’s right! What the Runnin Utes need to play big time basketball isn’t Alex Jensen or a good coach, it’s a really elite and experienced HD TV – uh, maybe to put in the JMHC, or the coach’s office? Or maybe the locker room so our guys can video game before and after the games?
We’re so lucky Cali Man showed up to point this out! Where would…[Read more]

OKC Thunder tried tanking a few years back, how is that working out? Also, Philly went to the conference finals and lost on a crazy Kawhi game winner. Had they went to the finals they most likely would have won for the same reasons that Raptors won.

This would mean $6 million instead of $2 million.
Sadly, this does not even match what BYU is paying one player next season.

The 76ers tried tanking for a few years to get picks, how is that working out?

Good get!
Now, give me a concurrent announcement of a $12 million NIL fund specifically for men’s basketball and I’ll be over the moon.

Smith and Ainge have not exactly covered themselves with glory, but I would say the NBA itself has destroyed the Jazz just as much as those two have. Utah is a small market and a state with no “street cred”, making it hard to get free agents to come. That’s the result of the NBA doing what the NBA does, and it seems to suit them fine.

Well, I am glad they are successfully tanking this year. The last two years seem like a bit of a waste.
I’m much more excited for the Mammoths, and it warms my heart to see everyone chugging their beer on the jumbotron in honor of Ryan Smith.

Jensen will bring new excitement to the program since coach K first came in. I’m not expecting overnight success but the program will become solid and be fun to follow and watch. It’s been a long time since we’ve watched good basketball in this state.

So I’m stoked for this. But I hate the reality that if our NIL isn’t competitive we’ll still suck, doesn’t really matter how good of a coach Jensen is. So hopefully our NIL is very well funded. I at least want us to be able to compete with BYU for talent (and that is feeling like a tall order, sadly).

I do think that Free Agents would come if they are star #3 or something. Like if the Jazz got two top players, a star who wants to win more than be in LA would be gettable.

And therein lies the challenge.

AlohaUte replied to the topic Smith and Ainge have destroyed the Jazz in the forum NBA 3 months ago
True, but to play devil’s advocate a bit, Denver has been solid the last few years and it isn’t a destination either, heck, for that matter the two conference leaders are Cleveland and Oklahoma City. So it’s still possible for our markets to be successful, but to your point, it’s still hard to hold onto that talent and that hurts fans and fan interest.
