Utah needs to focus all of its efforts on reaching a stable situation. The BIG and SEC are going to become the power 2. So the only long term solution is to join the BIG 10. Easier said than done. In the short run, Utah should pursue all best options at the same time. The president and the AD need to be working overtime.

Here are the three options in my view:

    – Apply to the Big 10 (longshot). Team up with a solid school in a unique media market and apply to join the BIG 10. Perhaps the teams agree to a deal similar to what Utah did to join the PAC 12 (slowly vesting rights with decreased revenues in the early years). The trick is finding a partner. Arizona may be the best option when considering revenue sports and academics. Stanford has amazing academic prestige, a link to California, and good olympic sports, but football has been down. Kansas could be interesting, but not sure we have any relationship with them. Colorado has geographic ties and a nice market, but also a down team. BYU offers the rivalry and a modest following, but the BIG doesn’t seem to want two teams in the same market. No other team in the current PAC 12 or Big 12 makes sense to me.

    – Join the Big 12 (likely outcome). Let’s face it, the PAC 12 is dead with Oregon and Washington leaving now too. The Big 12 is a stopgap since it will face the same eventual fate as the PAC 12 when the BIG 10 raids it, but it would buy some time. This is probably what is going to happen.

    – Talk with the ACC (also a longshot). This is a long way to travel. And would also likely require a travel partner. But it is the only other vialble conference. Eventually, the ACC and the Big 12 leftovers are going to band togehter, so might as well explore it now.

P12 and B12 scrambling to add teams is nothing more than rearranging deck furniture on the Titanic.

It’s all about contraction of the highest money generating programs/media markets sharing with only those that bring equal, more, or close to high level revenue. USC and UCLA win or lose are in one of the highest money generating media markets.

Unfortunately for Utah Mark Harlan will be too busy eating lunch with the golf team to effectively represent Utah in this critical time. Interesting times ahead or college football.

It’s honestly Big ten or bust for us. Going to the Big 12 will only be a band aid. The mega conferences are going to be between the sec and big ten. We need to get a seat at the table.

UW and Oregon are big name teams. Oregon is a national brand and I’m straight up shocked they weren’t included in today’s realignment news.

But if what Wilner says is true, then the Big10 would really only consider Notre Dame.

This will make it a lot easier to win the south now that we only have to compete against the Arizona Schools and Colorado.

I’ve considered this possibility too. However, UCLA doesn’t go without USC. If the conference wants to keep them, everyone only needs to give up money to USC to get them Big 10 money. Currently, that would only be about $1m per school. I’m not sure what that will end up being with the new media deals because they’re not out yet. I’m sure Kliavkov will be working with the presidents to try to make USC happy. We’ll see what happens.

The remainder of the PAC12 needs to work as one and be proactive.

The only hope the Utes have at joining thr Big 10 is if they make the playoff. Even then, it’s a long shot.

Expand/shrink is something that isn’t on the app.  That’s only on the home page.  Not a bad idea as a nice-to-have for the future in the app though.
