For those of you who have stood up for Harlan, I ask…. Now that Whit has come out and said that they won’t make much splash in the transfer portal because of lack of funding, do you still think Harlan is doing a good job. I’m not here to argue, just wanting a different perspective.
I believe you are referring to NIL funds. There is a limit to the amount we will have access to. Remember, the U needs endowment funds too. After all, it is a place of secondary education and a very good one. Pockets only go so deep. So, I don’t blame Harlan.
A year ago I was fine with Harlan. Not so much now. I do like the hire of Alex Jensen, but I am not sure he had a lot to do with getting him to come home.
If the Red Rocks pull off a national championship on Saturday, the Utes will have two this season. Not many ADs can say that. That being said, for me, it’s all about football.
Boosters now are being asked to donate year to year for players who will transfer for more money every year. In the past donors have built facilities and upgrades that help the program for decades.
NIL money is not sustainable. Once the boosters decide the ROI is not worth it they won’t return.
Maybe a dumb question. What is the ROI bucking up $1M for a kid to play 1 maybe 2 years? Hopes of a championship? Pride seeing the FB or BB make it to the playoff and March Tourney? Seems to me this is all fun money.
