OOC schedule is just plain old stupidity. 1. What good does it do if we lose? 2. What good does it do if we win?
1. If we lose OOC games to tough opponents the best we can hope for is what has been said about our program for years now, we put up a good fight. That’s it. Worst case scenario, we spend valuable energy and prep time on teams that costs us wins in conference.
2. If we win those games, we still have to go undefeated in conference (or darn near it) to be considered for the playoff, and we are simply not that good yet… Even if we did go undefeated, and end up in the playoff, we’d still get our butts handed to us by Clemson or Bama.
The bottom line is, we need to worry about getting to the Rose Bowl consistently. This will help our recruiting more than anything else that is within our grasp. OOC schedule has absolutely nothing to do with that. Who cares if crappy OOC schedules make the Pac look bad? If the Cali schools look bad, and we consistently win the Pac12, yay for us, more Cali recruits!
When we have gone undefeated in the Pac12, we can start talking about a tougher OOC schedule, until then it’s unnecessary at best, at worst it’s a useless hurdle.
Agreed.
Looking at it from the other side, I think that’s why we’re an undesired opponent for other big teams. We’re good enough to beat any of them on a given day, but they may not get as much recognition for beating us as they should since we don’t have the big name. If they lose to us, however, then it can be a major hit to their season.
The more we win the big games consistently, the more this goes away.
Definitely agree with this. Would rather treat the A game to someone else like a Tennessee rather than BYU
trading BYU for Tennessee makes the OOC harder by default.
Sadly, BYU is probably better than Tennessee, Vols just look better on paper
Yeah the East Coast bias would come through on that one! Unfortunately perception is reality.
Which is why Tennessee would be a better game. Utah would get more respect and most likely win.
Exactly. We get no credit for beating BYU and USU. Treat them as the B game and alternate games at home.
