ParticipantMan, this would be a great get! Why do Ducks fans think he’s leaning Utah?
-
MDUte
ParticipantWow, that would be amazing! Please let it be so!

ParticipantI have no inside information whatsoever. I live in Oregon and the talk around the water cooler is that he’s homesick. Hell, that could mean YBU.

ParticipantJust checked CB out of curiosity and they are claiming he has 2 uncles on the TDS staff and a bunch of former teammates there as well. They also are claiming that TDS was his 2nd choice and he did some interview with Criddle discussing his interest in going there. Not sure if it’s another Nacua type of situation but the family ties to the staff doesn’t sound good. Anyone know anything about that or his situation??

ParticipantThat’s my fear that it could be TDS. That would suck balls!! There’s already a write up about it:

ParticipantIf we lose Sumataia to TDS this will be a way bigger loss than the Nacuas IMO. He would be a starting offensive tackle for us on day 1 which is a much more important position than WR. And with Bam being done this year, Kump out to a season ending injury and nobody knowing how well he will recover for next year, Sumataia is the kid we need more than anyone right now.

ParticipantOnlyU, any inside info you can share about the possibility of getting him or not???

ParticipantIt would be great to hear any recruiting update from @Onlyu (Barton etc). Sounds like Sumataia is headed to the TDS, he’s originally from Orem if I’m not mistaken

ParticipantIf he has family ties to TDS like you say, it’s not good. Look at us, getting all worked up about a random 20-year old making a sports related decision. Damnit!!

ParticipantSo true Sal! This kid could be a true game changer for our OL like Penei Sewell was for Oregon. Would suck big time to see a 5* talent like that go to the TDS.

ParticipantQuestion regarding the transfer portal – can’t find the answer on the Googles. To transfer, is a player REQUIRED to enter the transfer portal? If you intend to go to BYU, why not just announce you are transferring from U of O to TDS? Are you obligated to open yourself up to the “market” for a limited period?

ParticipantTo transfer as a scholarship athlete, the school you are indentured to has to release you. The school putting your name in the portal is when the school officially releases you to go elsewhere. Technically, you could announce your new school within minutes of your name being entered but that could get the new school in trouble since they aren’t supposed to have contact when you are still under scholarship elsewhere. Kids get around that by having other people contact wherever they want to go to “see if there is interest” but so far, the NCAA has not tried to enforce that.
If he was paying his own way, you are correct that he would only need to get accepted at his new school.

ParticipantI have a bit of sort of inside information on this kid. Named after his uncle, who is a cousin of mine through marriage (not sure if the uncle is blood related to him or not). His uncle is Kingsley… Kingsley ah you that is, who played at BYU briefly. Obviously he’s related to all the ah you family.
this is the biggest reason I wanted Harding gone. These kids were going to Oregon because BYU sucked, and they had problems identifying with Harding. I’m NOT suggesting we fire Harding and hire his uncle from Weber state just so we can get him (he coaches lbs anyway), but this is what you get with Harding. I’m not sure, but I’m willing to bet that the majority of poly OL we signed didn’t have Harding as their main recruiter. He obviously gets along with certain poly families, and the ah yous (the ones not currently coaching/playing for BYU anyway) are outstanding and humble people. Kingsley is a wonderful kid, he would be great to have on the team. I have no clue where he is going, but my guess is not Utah.

ParticipantJust to clarify… I’m not suggesting those currently playing or coaching for BYU are not humble people, I just don’t know their family like I know many of the other Ah You families (I don’t know them at all). The only thing I know is that Chaz was considered by many at Timpview to be a massive premadonna that many on his team did not like (he transferred from some other school I believe, took someone’s position, and p**sed people off). I also know that anyone who uses a helicopter for the purposes of drawing attention to themselves is not a humble person. Now, that was years ago now, and he’s been through quite a bit, so I have no idea. The Ah Yous that I have met are all wonderful people.
