ParticipantBrandon Cox left around August 19th 2016…so yeah like two days later. Williams being voted a Captain might not matter at all.

Schulz, Isom, Manning, Cox and now possibly Williams? Not a fan of that. Cooper Bateman will be a solid number two.

ParticipantIs Williams a graduate student?

ParticipantI have read he would have to go back to the JUCO level. I also heard someone say Oregon St wouldn’t mind taking him. I expect it to happen by tomorrow if he has that option. Utah cancelled the media today so they can’t even ask that question of Williams.

ParticipantWilliams should realize that is it quite rare for the starting QB to start every game for an entire season. Its a long season, injuries happen, sometimes coaches change their mind. I hope he stays in there fighting!!

ParticipantAgreed. I just home it’s not another Kendall / Travis type situation. That’s got to be tough on the players.

ParticipantI agree. I think Taylor is investing in next year by giving Tyler another year to process the system. Even in high school you lose your spot if someone younger can fill it. That’s just the way it is.

ParticipantThink Alex Smith with two years vs. one. That’s the feverish place my eager mind is going…

ParticipantWhitt does a great job getting former players jobs as coaches.
I’d be careful to not burn bridges.
Troy’s football playing career effectively ended today. Time to think about the future and if coaching is a desire, Whitt is a fantastic resource to have.
AND, we never have a QB stay healthy all year. Stay Troy. Utah still needs you.

ParticipantWhat are you basing your comment regarding Bateman on?
The QB competition revealed he was a distant 3rd to Huntley and Williams. We know what Williams was capable of and Bateman couldn’t compete with that for more than a week of Fall Camp, meaning he is well below the level we know Williams to be at. If Bateman becomes the number 2 and Huntley goes down to injury, we just might be screwed.

ParticipantTaylors comments on Saturday were very complimentary to all three of the QBs.
The way some value experience he probably has as much as Williams. The way some coaches/fans value that makes you wonder how distant it really is?

ParticipantBateman doesn’t have anywhere near the level of experience Williams does. Williams played in multiple games for Washington, played an entire JC season, and started 13 games for us. Bateman played the equivalent of maybe one full game while at Alabama.
Coachspeak doesn’t do anything for me. Taylor isn’t going to bash any of his QBs so we can’t really take anything from his comments. The only thing we know is that after a week of practice, Bateman was made the clear number 3.
