The day after

I admit I was not happy with our performance yesterday.  It’s now the day after.  I have had a day to let it sink in.  Here is what I think.

– The defense played excellently.  They only allowed a 56-yard field goal and less than 200 yards.  I have no complaints.

– The offense was okay, but failed to finish drives like the Utes of old.  If we want to win our next two games we need to take advantage of our scoring opportunities.  Rising looked off early in the game and it cost us.  He seemed to settle down.  But, he was not spectacular.  We need to get the ball to our wide receivers more IMO.

– Special teams, outside of Covey were once again a total joke.  Our special teams have given up five touchdowns this year and have put the opposition in good field position.  Shaw should not be our special teams coach next year.

– CU is a bad team.  We should have played better.  How much has to do with a letdown after a big win?  I don’t know but a good team doesn’t allow for letdowns.

I was very happy with our performance. We won the game.

We got four easy touchdowns.

Colorado scored 2 field goals and a kickoff return (no offensive touchdowns).

This game was a classic “letdown game”.  We played down to our level of competition.

I was just fine with yesterday’s result.  That game was never in doubt.

I think we all came to temper or have no expectations after the Lowe tragedy. Utah has and continues to exceed my expectations. Offensively just a couple of things to clean up and we probably see 14 more points at least. It was a win and I have seen Utah do worst against an inferior Colorado team in the past.

I’m thankful we didn’t have to beat the Buffs to win the South.  It was nice to have that wrapped up already and I think we played like it.

Good teams have letdown games all the time. In fact I think you have to be a good team for a game to even count as a “letdown”
