KSL is reporting that Whitt may not release the 2 Deep Depth Chart. I hope this is not the case. I get it that this may indicate the replacement for injured players to the opposition but there is also a fan interest to be considered. I think both teams should just do this. At games, I very much enjoy quickly looking to see who a player on the field is, for both teams. I don’t enjoy looking at two complete rosters when only half play. It gets worse as the limit moves from 85 players to 105. It is also nice to quickly look by position. It is awful to only have one list, offense and defense with duplicate numbers, in only jersey order.

Sounds like his mind is already made up, so I doubt you’ll get your wish. Don’t forget you can use the Ute Hub app to view the roster (or the website). I spend HOURS punching in the players before every season starts.

i’m not surprised. releasing the two deep depth chart will be a game time decision at which point everyone will know as the games go on what the depth chart is. if Whitt thinks this will help him, i don’t think it will. he tried keeping injury reports secret the past two season but believed it seriously backfired big time! i even think he kept the players in the dark so much I think hit hurt team chemistry and destroyed any moment they could have had each game. players even spoke out on social media their displeasure in how things unfolded and couldn’t speak openly about it. i’m sure morale was at an all time low and Whitt didn’t know how to deal with and acted like everything was okay on the sideline when everything wasn’t okay. The 5-7 proved IMO everything was not okay

Speaking with some painful family experience, when coaches keep players guessing about where they stand, it is very corrosive to team chemistry, team moral, and players emotional well being. While no coach/manager should ever give players/employees guarantees because everyone should earn their PT/paycheck every day, if you keep them guessing and have no consistency, the emotional roller coaster begets a self fulfilling prophecy as it relates to performance. I think we saw that with certain players on the bball team with Coach Smith, especially this last year.

The players know. As in right now they know and they will know each week. Your mixing apples and oranges

This is a total joke. Whitt is becoming paranoid. Just get the team prepared to play hard-nosed football as you have done in the past. Forget all this other nonsense.

The media is tearing him apart. It makes our program look foolish.

As a fan, I wish we could see the depth chart. It’s fun and it makes it easier to follow the team. At the same time, I think it’s the right decision. It might not make a huge difference, but this is a game of inches. You need to gain as many advantages (and eliminate as many disadvantages) as possible (more important early in the season). Also, I wonder if the transfer portal has any influence over this decision. Maybe you don’t want to be publishing for the rest of the world the pecking order at each of your position groups (more important later in the season…like if you have a guy that’s working his way up the depth chart throughout the year).

I’m not worried about the impact to player morale or culture. The players will obviously know where they stand on the depth chart. The injury situation last year was very unique.

The players know exactly they stand!

The constant secrecy was a contributing factor in me dropping my season tickets after 20 years. Giving us less access and begging us for more money. Bad recipe.

If that’s what pushed you over the edge, then you might want to buy a mirror.
