Maybe…but I feel this team is closer to 7-5 than they are 9-3.
There are a few things going against ’em that concern me:
1. Opening on the road vs UCLA. This is a game that I think Utah can win and will likely dictate the season. But as of right now, Vegas puts Utah only as a three-point favorite.
It’s going to be a toss-up and Utah doesn’t…[Read more]

‘Just fine’ is the key.
Literally a poster in this thread said 8-4 would be a disappointment. If your framing of Utah’s success is calling 8-4 a disappointment, then you need to recalibrate things.
Utah will be just fine in the sense I believe they’ll be competitive and likely push for a bowl game – probably even make a bowl game.
But I’d…[Read more]

It’s crazy because Utah is coming off a 5-7 season where they only won two conference games, lost a significant amount of talent on defense and have an unproven offense.
Yeah, it’s borderline delusional to expect nine regular season wins.
Is it possible? Sure. Anything is theoretically possible but no, I do not believe it should be the…[Read more]

Vegas has Utah’s win total at 7.5. 8-4 would be a solid season considering the uncertainty of the last two years.
Fans expecting 9-3 are crazy lol
It’s possible but THAT would be a great season.

lol Utah won two Big 12 games last year.
That only happened once in the Pac-12.
The Big 12 isn’t a gauntlet but Utah also isn’t protected to be all that great.

This is extremely rosy unfortunately.
I’ll say this: 7-5 is far closer to Utah’s ceiling than it is their floor.

Utah still has questionable talent depth behind Wayshawn Parker, so it’s perfectly valid to have concerns, especially since Utah loves to run on offense under Whitt.

Caleb replied to the topic Utah hosting Cal transfer WR Tobias Merriweather on visit in the forum Football 1 month ago
Uh no.
I’m saying that if Dampier is throwing like he did last year, the offense is likely to resemble what we generally saw pre-Rising – a conservative offense with a game manager under center. Traditionally, that style of offense has limited Utah’s potential but also a big reason these receivers are skittish coming to Utah.

Caleb replied to the topic Is NIL and the portal sustainable? in the forum Football 1 month ago
It will be sustainable for some, not so sustainable for others. So, I do expect a significant realignment and schools that were at a disadvantage in the old system (say SMU and BYU) emerging as potential powers, while some schools step back because they don’t have the resources to match the higher rollers.
Utah’s method of success the last 30 or…[Read more]

Only time the offense looked semi-competent for a full season was 2019 and even that ended with a massive thud vs Oregon in the Pac-12 title game and Texas in the Alamo Bowl.
Rising elevated things so insanely and almost effortlessly that I think some Utah fans just assume it can be replicated rather easily.
I am hopeful Dampier can become…[Read more]

Caleb replied to the topic John Canzano on Locked on Utes in the forum Football 1 month ago
Canzano proved to be a story feeder for Oregon State, who had an agenda to save the Pac-12 because they knew they were not getting off the sinking ship if everyone bailed. His stories were not dishonest because he was reporting what his sources were saying but they were entirely too rosy specifically because his sources were peddling blind hope on…[Read more]

Yes. Whitt is the reason fans could not trust what was going on because he has to live this secret code that gives his team zero advantage.
I never agreed with the fans who started going after Cam but the coaches did him no services by teasing his return with goofy, “well we sure hope Cam plays…” week after week.
In fact, Cam actually forced…[Read more]

Caleb replied to the topic For now, only way TDS can beat Utah is NIL in the forum Football 1 month, 2 weeks ago
Let’s be honest: Utah fans would hate NIL a lot less if we had the resources other schools appear to have.
Like, let’s be honest: no one was thinking, “gosh, it’s not fair Utah took New Mexico’s OC and their starting QB…”
BYU is on the upswing. The program was DOA but the incompetence of the Pac-12, their refusal to expand with the leftover…[Read more]

Caleb replied to the topic For now, only way TDS can beat Utah is NIL in the forum Football 1 month, 2 weeks ago
NIL is going to neutralize Utah’s strengths since they’re very good at finding undervalued talent and turning them into really good players. In the NIL era, unfortunately those players are going to want bigger NIL deals and if Utah can’t match, those players are likely to leave the program at their pinnacle and Utah won’t be able to reap the…[Read more]

Nothing concrete and that’s why I say far from it… I’m not sure Snowden has made a decision tho I think he met with Whitt tonight so maybe he has.

And the boosters probably aren’t even contacting him directly.
It’s not dissimilar to when football programs reach out to coaches to gauge their interest during the season.
When Florida went after Urban during the 2004 season, they didn’t directly contact him. They had people contact family and friends to gauge his interest. They did the same…[Read more]

I like how BYU fans forget that they were poised to jump to the Big 12 in the late 90s without Utah before New Mexico backed out and Ann Richards stepped in and got Baylor secured. BYU is playing the game – congrats. Nothing wrong with that. But don’t act like Utah pulled one on BYU.
