had that chance in 2019 and didn’t want it. not sure the team would be motivated to play cincinatti.
trophy would look great in the case but it would feel like a consolation prize based on what could have been.

I was also at the 2017 game. Very similar to last night.
The one thing in common no one mentions is that Matt Gay missed a chip shot in the 1st half just like Noyes did. Nothing happens in a vacuum but you could make the case that if you make those field goals, the 2 pointers may not have been necessary.

2008 National Champ replied to the topic Thomas needs to leave the program. in the forum Football 2 years, 10 months ago
The narrative sure changed from “We have 4 great running backs” to “Do we have anyone other than Rising who can run the ball” in a hurry. With the bye, I expect the staff will be looking at everything to do with the running game this week. Everything needs to be on the table: blocking schemes, play calls, back rotation.,,. WSU will be difficult…[Read more]

2008 National Champ replied to the topic After watching the highlights it was clear that Rising was NOT losing that game in the forum Football 2 years, 10 months ago
The key was the offense not the defense. Don’t get me wrong, the D allowed one point less than Utah scored which the only thing that matters. And the D did enough to overcome the missed field goal and red zone fumble.
SC had 6 drives (not counting 24 second debacle at the end) in the 1st half scoring on 4 of them. Utah only gave them 3 drives…[Read more]

2008 National Champ replied to the topic So… will USC be able to take down UCLA? in the forum Football 2 years, 10 months ago
Without division champs it is tougher to project at this point but it appears that 4 teams have separated themselves and can finish with no worse than 1 loss. Utah has the tie-breaker over SC and the loss to UCLA. Should SC beat UCLA, each would be 1-1 against each other so then you move down the tie-breaker list and there’s a good chance Utah…[Read more]

2008 National Champ replied to the topic Best QB Performance by a Ute? in the forum Football 2 years, 10 months ago
I’m usually not one to take much stock in what the talking heads say but they did have it right on Rising’s poise. On that last drive he had two responsibilities: 1) score, and 2) take time off the clock.
He didn’t force any throws, made a couple of clutch 3rd down plays and kept the clock moving. Rising doesn’t get the press the others do…[Read more]

2008 National Champ replied to the topic Great win in the forum Football 2 years, 10 months ago
Schedule actually sets up well for Utah going forward. 11 days before WSU so weekday road trip shouldn’t be an issue. 10 days to Arizona. Stanford on normal rest. Work out the kinks and figure out the best lineup for Oregon and then Colorado. 4 and 1 should be the floor and running the table is eminently doable.

1 point road loss to a ranked team? USC wins out and they make the playoff. All today did was get Utah back in the conference / rose bowl race.

I watched on sportsurge.net. It was a bit of a funky stream this week (commercials game in great, live play could sometimes strobe) but it was free.

It’s still convoluted but I feel like the best chance for Utah in the CCG is a rematch with UCLA.
I don’t want any part of SC on a neutral field.
Getting past Oregon is a must and is going to be a problem since Utah struggles against the run. Beating them twice will be much more difficult than last year.
Of the 3, I like Utah’s chances…[Read more]

2008 National Champ replied to the topic How does a program that prided itself on defense in the forum Football 2 years, 10 months ago
no stick and i’m extremely happy that Utah won.
I’m still not seeing how your point was different than mine. Lloyd played Safety and Receiver in High School. There wasn’t anyone in the country, including the Utah staff, projecting him to be a first rounder at Linebacker in 2017. I’m glad he turned out to be what he was and he deserved every…[Read more]
