I laid out a scenario which would allow Utah to attain it’s goals for this season which starts which getting back to the CCG. Not sure where I said it was probable to occur. In fact, I’m pretty sure my second paragraph highlighted how unlikely I thought it was.

UCLA will be considered a good loss and ASU beat UW so Utah’s SOS goes up.

2008 National Champ replied to the topic We need better WRs in the forum Football 2 years, 10 months ago
You need a new site for stats. Coming into this game Kincaid had the most receiving yards.
It’s not the receivers fault that Rising didn’t throw to them the first two games. Who knows how good they are if they are only decoys.

2008 National Champ replied to the topic We have issues, just one to focus on today; Receiving. in the forum Football 2 years, 10 months ago
Receiving?
Which receiver didn’t cover an 8 yard crossing route so that it could turn into a backbreaking TD?
Which receiver, when the defense should finally have gotten a critical stop committed a stupid roughing the passer to extend the drive?
Which receiver was responsible for the gaping holes that allowed Charbonnet to go 30+ yards before…[Read more] -

We are UCLA fans now since they get both SC and Oregon. If Utah can figure out how to play defense this week and stop turning the ball over, they also get SC and Oregon. Both teams win out and it is 12-0 UCLA (they can lose a game but it can’t be SC or Oregon) v 10-2 Utah in Vegas.
Of course that is best case. Reality is that Utah proved that…[Read more]

they’ve been getting killed on the edges all day and clark hasn’t covered anyone in the red zone. but that can all go away if they nut up now.

2008 National Champ replied to the topic What’s your gut feeling? Do we get the win? in the forum Football 2 years, 10 months ago
Let’s face it, they hype was more about them having highlight plays that could be shown on Sportscenter rather than anything they had done, same as SC.
It’s the main reason there shouldn’t be any polls before the 6th week of the season. Pollsters are either trying to justify what they thought in July or mesmorized by shiny objects.

The Indiana QB is terrible. How bad can Tuttle be that he’s not in this game? Or have I missed it and he is injured / not part of their team any more?
I know we all thought it was a major loss when he left but every year it looks like a gift. If Costelli turns out the same way, Ludwig is no longer allowed to recruit high school QB’s. Just…[Read more]

That’s really the key. No common opponents, each fan base can come up with flaws in the other teams value.
Is DTR truly having a 2019 Huntley season or is it a mirage born of an experienced QB facing substandard defenses. The same case could be made for Rising. You could also make the case that the strength of UCLA’s defense is shutting down…[Read more]

2008 National Champ replied to the topic Pac-12 Rankings in the forum Football 2 years, 10 months ago
The only bias i have is which categories i choose to rank teams by. After that, the math is the math and as long as i don’t put my thumb on the scale, it is as clean as i can make it.
Is your disapproval because you think Utah is too low? They’ve beaten teams that are 3-2, 2-3, 1-4 and FCS while losing to a 3-2. That’s not exactly murderer’s…[Read more]

Caveat: this is a straight resume ranking. I do everything I can to eliminate bias and it is not intended to be a predictor of future results.

2. (9) Southern California (WSU)

2008 National Champ replied to the topic Is there any one player that we can't afford to lose? in the forum Football 2 years, 10 months ago
They’ve been trying to get him there since he got on campus. He struggled with it in 2020 and all of the injuries on the other side in 2021 didn’t give much opportunity. Also, having Nephi be so flexible allowed Clark to stay outside while Nephi played a hybrid LB/S instead of the traditional CB/S that you associate with the Nickel.
JT, Vaughn…[Read more]

2008 National Champ replied to the topic What's on the menu for tomorrow's game? in the forum Football 2 years, 10 months ago
best dip ever: smoked salmon from my fishing trip to the west side of vancouver island this summer and cream cheese. quick, easy, and most importantly, not something i can screw up. pair with a Kilt Lifter every time Utah scores a TD and I’ll be ready for a well-deserved nap around 10 minutes after the game ends.

2008 National Champ replied to the topic Interview with Ludwig on ESPN700 in the forum Football 2 years, 10 months ago
Not sure what you mean when you say “both teams have yet to play offenses like they will see tomorrow”. UW features a multiple attack with lots of play action, formation shifts, double tight end sets. UCLA won’t throw anything at Utah that they haven’t already seen from Florida, ASU or Oregon State.
For the most part, unless a team is running…[Read more]

2008 National Champ replied to the topic Is there any one player that we can't afford to lose? in the forum Football 2 years, 10 months ago
The answer is and always will be Rising. Of the others, losing Phillips would hurt the most since now that he’s moved to nickel, there are a lot of things Scalley can scheme with him and Bishop. I wouldn’t be surprised to see Phillips get a sack in the next couple of weeks.
I think Barnes would do fine running the offense in Rising’s absence…[Read more]

2008 National Champ replied to the topic Utah struggles to contain mobile QBs? in the forum Football 2 years, 10 months ago
to be fair, a mobile quarterback is every defense’s kryptonite. force him to handoff on zone reads and take away his hot reads in the passing game are pretty much all you can do.
the scheme used against ASU in the 2nd half of the 2021 game is about as good as a D can execute. And quite frankly, there was nothing wrong with the scheme against…[Read more]

2008 National Champ replied to the topic No-brainer of the year – Clark Phillips III Pac-12 defensive player of the week in the forum Football 2 years, 10 months ago
yeah, looking at the 2nd angle it appears he stumbled on the break so probably wouldn’t have picked it. on the live shots during the game i thought he lunged at where the ball was going to be had hubert not gotten there. still, i don’t think they score there as it was well defended.
