I would really be interested to know why Barnes and the receivers weren’t on the same page yesterday. At times it looked like they had never played together before and were definitely making different reads.
Off the top of my head:
– Vele stopping on a crosser while Barnes threw it for him to continue the route
– Vele stopping for a back…[Read more]

When a Pac team not expected to make a bowl loses in OT to the mighty ess-eee-cee.,, I think it says more about the Pac. Not that anyone east of the Rockies is listening

Johnson needs to do a better job of picking his spots to run. Baylor was keying on him and he kept pulling the ball. Glover had a chance at a house call that Johnson turned into a TFL and there were at least three other times where he kept and ran into multiple defenders.
He’ll get better but right now he’s pretty much 2017 Huntley who thinks…[Read more]

There were some bad camera angles on that broadcast but I also thought Baylor missed that first field goal. And the replay didn’t change my opinion. Have to trust the ref under the post but it didn’t look anywhere close on TV

in a perfect world, there isn’t a next opportunity. Rising knocks the rust off next week while both Johnson and Barnes get meaningful reps. Johnson will still have packages throughout the season and if they can keep Rising upright, Johnson will continue to get experience without having to carry the team.
2024 will sort itself out but for this…[Read more]

He can apply for a medical redshirt since he only played in one game

There were also plenty of times the line didn’t pick up stunts. And probably 7 first down rollout rights – including on the game trying drive – that put the offense behind the sticks.
The passing game didn’t really get going until Ludwig finally let Johnson throw from the pocket. It helped that Baylor was willing to give up the underneath stuff…[Read more]

Pretty sure he got the start. He was definitely in during the 4th quarter.

To be fair, Huntley was a true freshman in 2016 and weighed about a buck-oh-five. He needed a year and was started in 2017.

too early to worries about polls. keep piling up wins and you’ll be ranked right where you should be

Wow, I didn’t realize that Utah had already won both games 🙂
I said I thought it would be a split. I will be very happy to be proven wrong and will have no problem saying so. I do think that the Thursday before the 2nd game is a little premature to call those of my ilk out though.

Thomas got the first start of the season and put the ball on the ground. After the WSU game was when he got the next start.

Not across the board but 2016 Utah had to pull Joe Williams out of retirement when all the other RB’s got hurt

Ty Jordan was 0.883 in the composite which is just under a 4 star (.89). It’s not like he was overlooked.
I’d imagine that 5’7″ was the main knock against him.

great view! It’s rare to get an all-22 look on the television angles and it was nice to see Johnson make exactly the right read.
I would have liked Ludwig to come back to that later in the game. Bernard’s motion left Vele in man coverage without safety help until the jet action. Line it up again, have Parks shift out wide after Bernard resets…[Read more]

Jimmy Lake had two things going against him that I hope Scalley – if he is the next coach – doesn’t repeat:
1) Lake was an arrogant ass. That was cute as a position coach but didn’t work as the face of the program.
2) He was forced to keep the same staff as his predecessor. There are lots of egos on a coaching staff and not everyone can…[Read more]

I need to look up the stats but I’m not sure Utah played more than 3 backs at the swamp last year. I expect Randle and Stanley to get some snaps against Weber – I think I’ve heard that Mitchell is supposed to redshirt but maybe I’m thinking of Blocker.
If Curry isn’t ready and Jackson is limited or out, one of the freshmen needs to be in the mix…[Read more]
