2008 National Champ started the topic Remaining schedule in the forum Football 9 months, 3 weeks ago
The schedule is really setting up to provide maximum exposure for Utah.
September – Not a lot of high profile games this week and Arizona in a night game should get some eyeballs.
October – bye, ASU, TCU, Houston. A week to get healthy and 3 games which Utah should be 2 or 3 score favourites. Essentially a full month where Utah should be able…[Read more]

Yep. And the more I keep tilting at that particular windmill, the more I reinforce Einstein’s theory of insanity 🙂

2008 National Champ replied to the topic Chance to make the playoffs went up in the forum Football 9 months, 3 weeks ago
Those metrics are still using last year’s results. The % goes down every week but never completely goes away.
Both teams were roughly similar in returning production (slight edge to OSU) and overall talent (slight edge to Utah). OSU got a bump for home field, Utah having to change time zones and last year’s record. I don’t know if there is a…[Read more]

I agree, give them their credit. They’ve beaten two 3-1 teams and Jay Hill has that D humming.
If you believe that there’s a chance of Utah getting a 2nd Big-12 CFP bid while not winning the CCG, you want them to beat ranked teams along the way. There’s no guarantee K-State makes the CCG so it’s better for the teams on Utah’s schedule to beat…[Read more]

2008 National Champ started the topic Favorite play of the game in the forum Football 9 months, 3 weeks ago
Sure, most will point to the long Bernard run. And they are right. But something that may have missed notice was that the ball came loose after he hit the ground and it was jumped on by a Ute. No, it wasn’t a fumble but it was a heads up play to make sure Utah retained possession.
Who made that heads up play? Go to 9:07 and check it out for…[Read more]

Yes. No one performs at peak every time out. Great teams still manage to pull those games out. Good teams sometimes do.

with Rising today Utah wins by 30? really, a guy who can’t grip the ball was going to blow out OSU?
This boards relationship with Rising is reaching Battered Wife Syndrome levels.

The next time a true competitor forgets any slight, real or imagined, will be the first.
The only danger next week lies in how well Utah is able to recover from today’s game.

That UCF game still worries me with how they are playing and the logistics of that week.
And on a side note, I’ve been done with the Rising drama since before the Penn State rose bowl. Put his statue anywhere you want to on campus but please move on. I’m ready to roll with Wilson for the rest of the season. Sure there will be freshman mistakes…[Read more]

2008 National Champ replied to the topic Physicality in the forum Football 9 months, 3 weeks ago
I don’t remember anyone credible saying that Utah couldn’t handle the physicality of the Big-12. The discussions I remember were based on what we saw in the 4th quarter which is how Utah’s secondary would hold up against the wide open offenses of the Big-12.
When a guy who gets pulled at halftime after going 8-22 turns into Joe Montana in the…[Read more]

2008 National Champ replied to the topic Closer than it needed to be in the forum Football 9 months, 3 weeks ago
I don’t want to dog on Kuithe, but the timing was too close for it not to have woken OSU up. Add in that it’s natural to relax a bit based on the score and a dominant win turns into a nail-biter in a hurry if you aren’t careful.
D, Bernard and the O Block definitely get game balls. Singer gets his flex picture on the media guide right next to Covey’s

Mistakes on both sides but if today’s game was an indication, it could develop into a pretty good rivalry.

D gave up some plays at the end after the Kuithe nonchalant on the TD. Kick the extra point to go up 20 and the other team needs to score 3 TD’s instead of 2 and a field goal.
Wilson didn’t lose it but there’s some things to work on. Even the Kuithe TD was underthrown. Kid’s a gamer but he’s not there yet. His receivers made some great plays…[Read more]

We know Mitchell is playing hurt but it’s surprising that he isn’t more effective. Both Vincent and Bernard are more decisive in their cuts right now while Mitchell is getting swallowed up waiting for things to open.
