Way way way too many people here and on Reddit and X are absolutely bent out of shape about Rising not playing.
Go ahead fans, yap your ass off about it, but it’s not going to change a damn thing. If Rising is healthy this year, he’s going to play. Today, he couldn’t grip the ball, and couldn’t throw the ball. A QB who can’t do that is not going to win the game. This isn’t a knee. Cam will be back next week or after the bye, and he’ll make us all happy to see him.
Stop talking about “wasting NIL money.” Stop talking about “holding Wilson back.” Stop talking about it. It is what it is, it’s out of fan control, and trying to make it a thing is flat out stupid and makes you look stupid.

RoboUteParticipant
Rising is at the point where he doesn’t even have to play for people to fully accept him into the back of their throat. That’s legendary, I’ll give him that.
You’ll have plenty of time to sing his praises when he plays… presumably. Until then the team might appreciate it if you use your energy to praise the people who actually played.
By the by. Does anybody know what percentage of our total NIL commitment is going to Cam Rising?
-
UtesbyfiveParticipant
“OUR NIL committment.”
So the school now determines who gets what NIL money? If they do, then that’s not how it’s supposed to work and there should be a f**king investigation. NIL is supposed to be negotiated between the player and businesses that want to buy their NIL.
College athletics is being ruined by this, and y’all are way too eager to make it happen.
-
RoboUteParticipant
I’m not really sure what you mean, but do you know the answer? I mean just as a percentage of the total? Alternatively, do you think it’s possible it’s over half?
-
UtesbyfiveParticipant
So in your estimation it’s a zero sum game? There’s X amount of dollars and there will only ever be X amount of dollars? Maybe because Cam is who he is, and companies want to pay him, there’s X + Cam amount of dollars. Maybe if Cam isn’t a player, there’s only X – Cam amount of dollars. Your thesis doesn’t hold any water economically speaking.
-
RoboUteParticipant
Hm, that’s an interesting way to think of it, I’m not sure it reflects my comment in any way but it’s interesting. If you’re an economic whiz have you ever been introduced to the concept of scarcity? AND Is there a specific reason you’re avoiding the question?

To the Cam haters:
If you’re going to bag on Cam while he’s out, don’t celebrate with us when he comes back and helps us win.
-
RoboUteParticipant
I’m not sure there’s anyone on the board who wouldn’t be happy to have him play. It just never seems to happen, that’s all.
-
-
PhatmanandyParticipant
Well I do know that my wife’s boss is one of the NIL donors that donated for Cam to come back, I think their donation was over 1 million specifically for Cam.

ProudUteParticipant
I get your point, but telling fans how to be a fan rarely works. I’m not sure why you are attacking your fellow Utes after a nice road win.
-
UtesbyfiveParticipant
I’m attacking the dips**ts that want to dump Cam.
-
AlohaUteParticipant
As well you should

UTE98Participant
Well now you’ve changed my mind.
Rising is great when he’s great, however Rising being Rising put this game today in jeopardy. He failed to protect himself, took a shot which didn’t need to happen. Then took 1st team snaps this week. Can’t you see that?
He’s made more in NIL in the past two years and rumor has it we lost JJ because of it. JJ helped win more games than Rising last year. And we would be so much better this year with him. I personally would have loved to see Rising’s NIL go to players who’ve played more than four quarters since January 2023.
And KW’s inaction has moved us back to the early PAC days. We’ve got Singer, Parks, Kuithe, Lohner, etc, and we’re squeaking out wins still. Not exactly an upward trajectory.
Since you said not to gripe and complain I guess I’m just stupid. I see things differently, perhaps even thinking it stupid to tell me how to fan.

😏Hard to swallow pills
Even harder is that he will play again and most likely injure himself.
-
UteanoogaParticipant
So when the Baylor DT cheep shotted him into the coolers 10 yards out of bounds that was Cam hurting himself?
-
-
OmahaOmahaParticipant
Not necessarily arguing about JJ, but, Micah is holding his own through four games this season. He’s the B12 leading rusher with 456 yards averaging 6.9 per carry. JJ is the leading SEC rusher through four games with 472 yards and 6.8 per carry. Perhaps you can argue that JJ is getting into the end zone and Micah is not. Theyre both tearing it up. I don’t know that our running game would be much better with JJ, except we would have a two headed monster which is always nice — but Micah is running as well as anyone in the country so far, save Ashton Jeanty.

Internet doesn’t even come close to represent the entirety of the Utah fan base.
Internet fans say s**t they wouldn’t ever say in person. Not me though I would say exactly what I think to Rising.
-
UtesbyfiveParticipant
What would you say to him exactly?
FU for winning two Pac-12 championships?
-
RoboUteParticipant
I’d give him your number at least.
-
UtesbyfiveParticipant
You’re trying to insult me by implying that I want to suck his dick… so lame.

lame? You have more advanced techniques?

People have feeling that are theirs, telling someone how to feel is pretty naive at best. I would suggest pointing out positives that may help them change the way they feel. Maturity 101. Go Utes!!!
-
CityCreekUteParticipant
Strange stuff.
Bagging on Rising is just utterly stupid.
My guess is that it’s really a kind of projection/transference and that people are frustrated with the Whittingham reporting of injuries and the yo-yo that creates.
-
The Miami UteParticipant
There’s absolutely no crisis in the Utah fan base. How many of the people here ever even set foot in RES? Last I checked, Utah has sold out the stadium for well over a decade. How many other teams in college football can say that?
I for one, have never made a negative comment about Rising on this site. When I complain about the QB position, I reserve my commentary for those that have the ultimate responsibility, the coaching staff.
Rising, for as good as he is and the charisma and star power he has, is just a worker bee. He does what the staff tells him to do and that’s it. He doesn’t call the shots or recruit or create game plans or develop the QB room.
So, if we are where we are and you don’t like it, don’t blame Rising. Blame the guys that have put the team in a position to depend on a true freshman for victories. However, if you do that and the team still keeps winning, also give credit where credit is due and praise the staff for preparing Wilson and selecting the guy that gives Utah the best opportunity to win.

Is nuance allowed on here?

The Miami UteParticipant
Nuance doesn’t really exist on the internet.

Yep. And the more I keep tilting at that particular windmill, the more I reinforce Einstein’s theory of insanity 🙂

Ute-yankeeParticipant
I want to win. I want the players on the field who ate going to help is win. If Cam is the quarterback I want him on the field. If it is Wilson or anyone else I want them on the field.
The thing with Cam that has me frustrated is how stupid he was on that play that got him injured. How are you a 7th year senior and hold on to the ball that long?
Now we are in the same holding pattern we were in all last year. Which is not good for Cam because Wilson is showing flashes of being elite.
-
PhiladelphiaUteParticipant
If someone isn’t healthy enough to play, they shouldn’t play. So if Rising can’t grip the ball, and we have a greater chance of victory by starting the true freshman, then so with the freshman. I don’t have much problem with that. My issue is seeing all these strong hints that Rising will play, only to find out that on game day, he’ll be a “game time decision”. But if he were a “game time decision” on Saturday, how was “most probable” or “will play” several days earlier? And this isn’t a “one-off” either. It all of “preseason 2023” through “October 2023”, and again pre-Utah State and Oklahoma St.
I would LOVE for Rising to get back on the field as soon as possible, but I’m done with UteHub telling me when he’ll take the field. As of yesterday moving forward, I’m no longer counting on Rising to play until after I see him donning his helmet, and taking the field†. And that’s not me “hating on Rising”. It’s me “hating on dubious reporting”.
† The coin toss doesn’t count

Jim VanderhoofParticipant
We are 4-0 just won our most feared game on the road with a true freshman QB. Wilson has gotten playing time and has proven he can be a capable backup. Rising is the leader. Nobody on the coaching staff and team would deny his leadership.
We need him this week vs Arizona but if he is not ready Wilson will be ready. It’s a long season and winning games is the bottom line. Rising gives us the best chance if healthy. He came back to win a championship and go out a winner. Let’s support him and the team.
