ayup! outisde of injuries, i don’t expect to learn anything this week from a game that Utah should win by ~ 40 points. The real measuring stick is on Sept 7

2008 National Champ started the topic Team Talent Composite in the forum Football 8 months, 1 week ago
247 posted their 2024 Team Talent Composite. I’ve been tracking it since 2015 and if I would have been betting the money line just based on the talent rankings, I would have been way up. For instance, if someone has just taken the more talented team for home games in P5 v P5 matchups, they would have won 70% of their wagers regardless of the…[Read more]

2008 National Champ replied to the topic The Rising Report in the forum Football 8 months, 1 week ago
he didn’t get on the field, but he dressed for the 2021 loss. and as much as I’m able to ignore the parochial school, it’s part of the local conversation no matter what happens. so in his 23 years on the hill, he’s technically oh and one

2008 National Champ replied to the topic Why did Whitt move away from the spread offense? in the forum Football 8 months, 1 week ago
there is no such thing as a “spread” offense. it simply refers to receiver alignment and originated as a talking head term as teams moved away from “tight” formations like the power I, wish/flex bone, or veer in an attempt to get defenders out of the box to make running easier. over the last 30 years, it’s now become a catchall term that doesn’t…[Read more]

2008 National Champ replied to the topic The Athletic predicts the playoff teams in the forum Football 8 months, 2 weeks ago
very low % chance that there is a home playoff game in RES in the current CFP format since they would have to be a 5 to 8 seed instead of a conference champ.
With the current emphasis on the big 2, the only way I could see that happening is an undefeated regular season and then losing the CCG by a close enough score that they don’t drop to 9.…[Read more]

2008 National Champ replied to the topic Is Cam up to speed? Is he in shape? Just curious. A long sit out and no Spring in the forum Football 8 months, 2 weeks ago
spring games where a QB knows he won’t get hit can only tell you so much. Brewer completed something like 264 throws w/o an incompletion a couple of spring games ago. But if you actually watched the game, he would have gotten hit on close to half of them if he’d been live.
Rising did what a 7th year QB should have done against a defense only…[Read more]

2008 National Champ replied to the topic Is Cam up to speed? Is he in shape? Just curious. A long sit out and no Spring in the forum Football 8 months, 2 weeks ago
week 1 is for the bottom of the roster to see if any have improved enough since spring to get more reps. as camp progresses, the two deep will get a higher % of reps as they move to game planning.
Rising and Kuithe are known quantities so the injury risk of live contact needs to be balanced with the need to build continuity. When you’re basing…[Read more]

2008 National Champ replied to the topic What do you want to see in the SUU game? in the forum Football 8 months, 3 weeks ago
You introduce new wrinkles every week but when you are facing a team that you should be able to beat handily running no more than your base offense, why show more than you have to?
Ludwig will have a couple of things that he wants to work on for Baylor, then a couple of things for Utah State, and so on. Fall camp only provides enough time to get…[Read more]

2008 National Champ replied to the topic We are doomed! in the forum Football 8 months, 3 weeks ago
maybe spend less time on the parochial school fansites trying to find things to make you upset? I’m pretty sure that there isn’t a market on that site for articles that are designed to make you feel good about Utah.
If the premise is “What would it take for the parochial school to win every game this season”, there is nothing wrong with what you quoted.

not sure how hurdles translate to DB play. running in a straight line and jumping over an obstacle v backpedaling and breaking with the receiver in any possible direction. seem like different skillsets.

2008 National Champ replied to the topic Michigan fans right now in the forum Football 8 months, 3 weeks ago
I’m not usually a fan of taking away victories since no one ever notices when they do it years later. But vacating the national championship before they can hang a banner might actually be a punishment that works.
The show-cause penalty against Harbaugh doesn’t matter any more than it did against Chip Kelly. Assuming he ever wants another…[Read more]

2008 National Champ replied to the topic New Poll: Predict the 2024 Utah Football Regular Season Record in the forum Football 8 months, 3 weeks ago
9-3.
Too many new faces this year against too many new opponents. Oklahoma State comes before the team will truly have built it’s own identity (loss 1).
I’ve been banging the UCF drum since the schedule came out. That trip on a short holiday week against a team that would love to knock Utah out of a potential Conference Championship and…[Read more]

2008 National Champ replied to the topic Will we have/need/want a RB1 or go with a committee? Who will lead? in the forum Football 8 months, 4 weeks ago
on his HUDL, Andrews pulls away from DB’s so he has plenty of speed. Not sure if he has the quick cut ability that Vaki showed last year but he could potentially have the same size/speed type of game that Booker did.
Of course, it doesn’t say much for the 2023 class of 4 stars if a guy recruited to play LB gets moved over and takes reps from those 3.

Interesting. Andrews at LB didn’t last long

2008 National Champ replied to the topic Pick 6 Prediction in the forum Football 9 months ago
yep, go with a linebacker given the lack of picks by corners other than Clark Phillips since 2020.
Barton or Reid undercutting a flat route is a pretty safe choice

just google harold carmichael and it will look the same against any CB. of course, lohner’s got a long way to go before he can be compared to carmichael in anything but height

I had the same problem when I was his age where I couldn’t put enough calories into my body to keep up with my metabolism. If you can imagine being 6’1 and trying to wrestle at 122 as a freshman in High School – never had to worry about making weight.,,
There was another kid a couple of years ago (Wegis?) who had a lot of talent but just…[Read more]
