2008 National Champ replied to the topic Star rating system is flawed in the forum Football 11 months, 3 weeks ago
Devin Lloyd also played WR/S in high school where he was too slow for the position(s) to be considered a future draft pick. No one reviewing tape in their right mind looks at his HUDL and projects him to put on 30 pounds and go in the first round at LB. Just like anyone reviewing Dalton Kincaid in his one year of HS ball wouldn’t decide that…[Read more]

2008 National Champ replied to the topic Star rating system is flawed in the forum Football 11 months, 3 weeks ago
Is it time for the annual “star ratings” don’t matter conversation already?
In the aggregate, the star ratings work. On an individual basis, there are variances so it’s easy to cherry pick a Devin Lloyd or a Jake Heaps and say that ratings don’t matter. However, those are the exceptions that prove the rule which is that rating the DRAFTABILITY…[Read more]

2008 National Champ replied to the topic Honest question: Urban Meyer hate? in the forum Football 11 months, 3 weeks ago
imagine that you get to go into the way-back machine to 2002. Your football program has traditionally been below average in a below average conference. You’ve just fired a long-time coach who showed promise early but the program has stagnated under his watch. As far as national exposure, the only mention is when your school is mistaken for…[Read more]

2008 National Champ replied to the topic Interesting poll question on Twitter/X in the forum Football 11 months, 3 weeks ago
It would completely depend on the state of the roster. Urban likes taking over a squad that is ready for big things while 2025 Utah is looking like as close to a complete rebuild as 2017 Utah.
Off the top of my head, those exhausting their eligibility and/or potential draftees:
QB1
TE1
RB1
3 or 4 receivers
DT1, DT2, DT3
LB1, LB2, LB3

105 sounds like the number from the first time the NCAA limited scholarships before dropping down to 85.

20 seems low. Utah’s roster was around 125 last year so I’d double that.

There used to be a rule that if a kid was a two-sport athlete and one of them was football, his scholarship had to count against the football limit. That dates back to when the NCAA started limiting scholarships so that schools wouldn’t load up the non-revenue sports with football players to circumvent the cap.
Interestingly, one of the main…[Read more]

Carrington was 2017. I think you are describing the missed 2 pt conversion at SC which would have presumably won the game.
The one thing no one ever brings up is that Matt Gay missed a chip shot in the 1st half that would also have provided the winning margin, assuming that everything else had stayed the same.

I know we’re supposed to assume the same ability for everyone in a family but I always think of the Griffey trivia question: how many combined major league home runs did Ken jr. and his brother Keith hit?

wasn’t there a high draft pick from Iowa with that same last name?

you lost me at #2. The time for Notre Dame to have their cake and eat it needs to end. And they shouldn’t have a vote equivalent to any of the other 10 conferences.

Did 2023 not happen?
Ludwig knows how to utilize the skillset of the players he has.

Sooo much had to go wrong on that play for it to turn into a pick 6. Mariner fakes a vert and 2nd round Murphy goes to the ground. Normal coverage Murphy just breaks that pass up but instead he’s the exact 3 steps late he needs to be to take a once in a decade bounce to the house.
At least half of the UW starters that day ended up in the league…[Read more]

The problem with your next year scenario is why would Rose stick around to be QB3 for another year? I’d say it’s more likely to be Huard/Wilson and then whichever of the two QB commits appears least likely to turn the ball over while Rose hits the portal a year later than he should have.

2008 National Champ replied to the topic Sam Huard transfers to Utah in the forum Football 12 months ago
Huard’s a bit of an enigma at this point. Father and Uncle were both stars at UW and made the league. Played at Kennedy Catholic which, along with Eastside Catholic, gets the top talent in the Puget Sound. Finished off the state career passing record during the Covid spring and the next week started Spring ball at UW. Was undersized and got…[Read more]

2008 National Champ replied to the topic Utah brings in Sam Huard as QB2/QB3 backup in the forum Football 12 months ago
Huard is an Air Raid QB and not particularly mobile. Ludwig’s schemes depend on having a QB who can make something happen with his legs when behind schedule.
That being said, I agree it’s a good pickup. As long as Huard is over the 4 pick debacle against WSU his freshman year, he provides starting experience should Rising get dinged up without…[Read more]

True, but no NFL contract prohibits the player from outside marketing of himself which is the basis for NIL. The Supreme Court has ruled so that cat is out of the bag.
The idea that kids sign over their NIL rights to a school in exchange for becoming an employee doesn’t seem like it would stand up to serious scrutiny. It sounds more like a…[Read more]
