2008 National Champ replied to the topic Utah doesn't throw to receivers and why it's a bunch of hogwash nonsense in the forum Football 1 year, 8 months ago
I think you’re missing the distinction between receiver and tight end. 3 of the 5 in the latest Ludwig era per your list were not receivers. Also, having your leading pass catcher in 2019 with only 30? woof 🙂
2019 was actually Kuithe 34, Simpkins, 32, Moss 28 and Dixon 24. The big play threat that year was Thompson who only got 18 in 12…[Read more]

No, I’m with you. I was trying to piggyback off your point, not disagree.
Right now, Oregon would be my least favourite opponent, followed by Oregon State. Washington is tough but I’m looking at it as Utah would have already beaten them once to get there. Washington’s weaknesses also match Utah’s strengths whereas the other two have both shown…[Read more]

They do it in the NFL but there are limitations. Something like 15 seconds or so left on the play clock and the radios shut-off.
To be honest, having someone talking in my ear while I was trying to call a cadence or do my own reads would drive me nuckin’ futz. There is such a thing as paralysis by analysis.

I’m more a fan of Utah losing to Oregon in the CCG than I am of them not making it at all. You can’t win it if you don’t get there in the first place.
Having the kids get the chance after everything that has gone on this season, even if it’s only 1% (it isn’t), would be a huge reward. They will have earned every bit of it. And I guarantee that…[Read more]

It’s close. I believe OSU has the slight advantage because I’m not sure Arizona can get in without the right tie-breakers and they are the only one that OSU wouldn’t have the advantage over. I’ve tried about a dozen times since Saturday to run out different scenarios and once I get down to which 1-5 team beats another 1-5 team to give potential…[Read more]

Oregon State also controls their own destiny.

1. There are 4 or 5 path(s) at this point. UW at 8-1 or 9-0, Oregon at 8-1 are automatically in. Tanute laid out one of the Utah/Oregon paths. There are a couple that end up with Utah/UW, and I can even come up with one where Utah has a rematch against Oregon State. I don’t believe there is a path where Utah would face SC again.
2. Utah has…[Read more]

It’s hard to know how big Scalley’s rolodex is. I think everyone assumes that Ludwig will leave when Whitt does so Scalley is going to need at minimum a new OC. Those options get pretty small when you’ve only ever worked at one school with a staff that doesn’t experience much turnover.
Most 1st time HC’s have worked at multiple schools before…[Read more]

ASU forced those TO’s. They dropped 5 or 6 each play and brought pressure over the center forcing Penix to move. He’s at his best when he is throwing in under 2 seconds which keeps the sack numbers low and makes their line seem better than it is.
The change they made in their run game against SC was going away from the RPO/Play Action mesh…[Read more]

2008 National Champ replied to the topic Which QB do you take if you are an NFL GM? in the forum Football 1 year, 8 months ago
The only thing wrong with SC’s run game is that Reilly refuses to use it in a close game after the 1st quarter. Washington beat SC because they continued to run the ball and that’s where their biggest plays came from. SC was averaging 7.5 per but kept going back to the Williams scramble drill just like they did in the Notre Dame and Utah…[Read more]

2008 National Champ replied to the topic Which season would you rather have right now? in the forum Football 1 year, 8 months ago
Obviously Utah since they are the only one of the 4 with something to play for at this point. I disagree that Utah has underperformed though. Preseason they were #14 which translates to a 9-3 regular season. That’s still on the table, even with a loss this weekend.
If the expectation had been 10-2 or better, Utah would have been a preseason…[Read more]

SC’s athletic department has been devastated financially over the last decade with all of their hirings/firings. That was supposed to be part of the reasoning for heading to the B1G.
UCLA is in bad shape because of bad management. SC had bad management but they also had a mini-Nassar scandal that they have to pay off and multiple buyouts.…[Read more]

2008 National Champ replied to the topic Utah plays in the conference championship if this happens. in the forum Football 1 year, 8 months ago
Upsets happen every week in CFB. It’s why there’s so much interest in the sport. Heck, Oklahoma was a shoe-in for the playoffs two weeks ago and now may not even make their CCG.
Oregon’s damn good but they can be beat. And SC beating them after losing 3 of 4 would be just about the most SC thing that could happen.

It was a quick glance. White lid with black script. I can’t keep a white hat clean so would need a dark background. Either Red or Black with white lettering would probably work.

The picture got clearer. UCLA is eliminated. Arizona, Oregon State, USC and Utah all have 2 losses. Washington is in unless they lose 2 of the last 3.
Games that matter this week:
Utah has to beat UW
USC has to beat Oregon
Arizona and Oregon State on upset alert against Stanford and ColoradoOregon, Oregon State and UW all control their own…[Read more]

there are multiple path(s). Oregon is the team I don’t want to see again.
Utah beats UW/Ariz/Col
SC beats Oregon
UW beats Oregon State
Oregon State beats Oregon
UCLA beats USCthose results would have Utah playing the winner of tonight’s UW/SC game. Hate to say it but I’m an SC fan for the first time in my life, but for 4 hours only. Even if…[Read more]

Because he’s been injured since fall camp and has only finished one game so far this season. if there’s one guy you need to be smart with his usage, it’s Jackson. If you needed him to get another 15 carries this half to win, you needed a better plan
