Was the second game I’ve watched this year. I don’t think I caught a single game since Rylan Jones helped beat BYU his freshman season. Was tired of the endless Coach K transfers and poor development of good recruits. Smith has come in, which I was optimistic for, but I just couldn’t get behind yet another rebuild. Also, I’ve gone all in on football as sports consumes so much time and I just don’t have that anymore.

However. I might be watching some more basketball this year. We play with effort. We have some guys that can pick up scoring of Carlson is off. But man, Carlson had himself a game last night. Dude looked the part, and I agree, did so with confidence.

Best part about Carlson last night? He went up strong for his dunks. You’re the big man, get up there with strength because you’re going to get fouled. That’s more than Gobert ever did for the Jazz, which was my biggest complaint about him – and I’m a Gobert fan.

Really enjoyed the game last night.

Mikey Matthews. I think he was there for spring camp which gives him an edge on reps and development and coaches raved about him.

CP3 was an impact freshman but he also got spring reps. I think Snowden will have the same path (play nickel and outside at first then strictly outside). I heard Tao Johnson was excelling at nickel but he’s only 1 guy to beat out. Vaki played there as well but his natural role is more of a safety IIRC.

I don’t know enough schematically to answer this question. But here are my thoughts.

I agree that it seems like we only have trust in 2-3 guys, therefore, that’s who plays. This year may be different.

I love the thought of rotating guys. So many benefits. Allows flexibility for optimal defensive setups for down and distance. Offers insurance in case there are injuries. Forces your opponent to study film of more guys and formations.

My personal favorite, keeps guys fresh in the fourth quarter. Remember during the peak of our D line days, all of the sudden we’d start getting home in the 4th quarter? I’m sure some of that was Scalley setting up the scheme all game, but I also believe we had the depth to pull it off. If our guys have the confidence that the fourth quarter is “our time”, we’ll win a lot of ballgames.

Not a Benedict guy. I’d counter with this one, The Hoss. It’s the first breakfast image you see on this link.

Agreed. Yassmin taking the next step could be big for us. Need to get him the ball and let him out-physical the defense with his rugby background.

I like your Zemiah Vaughn pick. He’s always had the tools physically and has had some big moments. If he can put the mental piece together, he could be big time this year.

I almost said the same thing with my pick. Agreed 100%.

Reid is solid and steady, but he’s not a freak athlete. Would be wowed if Medlock beat him out by seasons end. Do they play the same LB position or is Medlock playing Landers role?
