I don’t wanna step on AZUte’s sources, but I do have a massively different take on Hill and I have some background as to why. So both of my in-laws are Weber State alumni and longtime boosters. Along with being pretty good friends with several folks in the AD’s office, Jay Hill and his family actually lived 3 houses down from them in South Ogden before he took the TDS gig.

I firmly believe what I’m about to share, but AZ, please know that I’m not here to drag on your sources or claim that mine are in some way better than yours.

With all that said, I think Hill is absolutely looking to parlay his BYU job into an HC opportunity. The talk around here was that even with the massive pay bump, Hill struggled mightily with leaving his HC spot at Weber in favor of becoming the DC in Provo but he ultimately did it because he was starting to feel like other HC opportunities were passing him by while he was at Weber. Basically, winning at Weber was not upping his profile enough and he felt like he could improve his chances by putting his stamp on the BYU defense.

So far, I think it’s working and if TDS’s D takes another step this season, it’s gonna be mighty hard to keep him in Provo. There’s even talk that he was willing to take the Utah State job but pulled his name out of the running when it became clear Bronco was trending towards their #1 choice.

Again, I’m bringing conflicting sources to the table but if a school out west pursues Hill after this year, I’d be absolutely stunned if he didn’t take it.

I also believe the smoke around the theory that Shaw is happy right where he’s at as DB coach and that Colton Swann would be Scalley’s choice as DC. It’s the right call too. Swann is an absolute star in the making- especially in recruiting. And I have 100% faith that the following tidbit is true: When Hill left to join BYU, Weber State immediately called Swann and offered him the HC gig without even interviewing him. After talking it over with his wife, they both felt extremely confident in staying the course at Utah was better in the long run than jumping at the Weber gig. They made that call because Swann thinks that Scalley will be the HC VERY soon and that he’ll be the one stepping into the DC role.

I wish the U would. Greg was one of the most undersized D’tackles ever. He survived, even excelled, by playing with extreme effort and throwing his body around. Think about the collisions this man created and suffered. Brutal.

These stories always set me off a little. I don’t understand why football at every level hasn’t adopted rugby-style tackling. Obviously collisions at the line of scrimmage are separate, but a tackling change would make a significant difference. Our own Utes won’t move to rugby-style. Kyle doesn’t teach using the helmet as a weapon but he does want the head up and erect often meaning it’s a huge part of the force tackling an opponent. Drives me nuts. Inevitably, it does mean a player will lead with the helmet at times.

I’m a pessimist that picked 7-5. I don’t have any for sure losses but have been around long enough to not get sucked into the hype machine. Life is always better to be pleasantly surprised than disappointed. I don’t have any for sure losses but still pick the Utes at 7-5.

I like the positivity but Utah’s future is murkier than I think you’re suggesting.

      1. It’s not certain Utah will bounce back big this year. They should be improved but it’s also possible that improvement only nets them an additional win or two compared to last year.

      2. Utah is not on the Big 10’s radar. Utah can try to work that Big 10 invite all they want but there is only passing interest in Utah. They might get a better look if they expand beyond 20 teams but that isn’t likely happening for a while and certainly would be tied to the Big 10 and SEC splitting off and making their own division.

I know this will be unpopular but Utah fans need to drop the idea. Even if the Big 10 looks west to help balance UCLA and USC, Cal and Stanford are still the more likely option. And then after them, probably Colorado and ASU, especially if the Sun Devils keep winning like they did last season.

Ah, the words of the world’s most notorious sex offender and a known liar, who certainly didn’t have an axe to grind against the man who cut all ties with him when he found out he was a sex offender (the irony of claiming he has no moral compass). Great source to base your opinion about someone on.

To answer your question, I can only speculate. Maybe it provides him some sort of leverage. Maybe the DOJ is still building a larger case against people on the list. Maybe it’s because if we the people were to find out all of the people who are actually on the list, it would be so devastating to the fabric of our nation it would result in total chaos. Who knows?

Regardless, the idea that Trump is on it (something even Epstein’s former lawyer vehemently denied on CNN) and the Dems sat on it for four years is just absolutely laughable.

“I was Donald’s closest friend for 10 years.” When asked about the man Epstein said “The moral compass just
does not exist.” You worship a man a pedophile is disgusted by.

So why doesn’t a man whose biggest campaign promise was to release that list, release the list? Should be easy, right?

No reason except we aren’t at the top of the NIL chain.
