This also speaks to the type of person Alex is. He’s a guy that takes commitment seriously and a man of integrity.

I think this is interesting as the story is written as “who is currently”, and not “who has been historically”.

Based on all that Whitt has done, I absolutely think he belongs on this list from a historical perspective. However, based on who I want coaching my team today, I don’t know that I agree. I’m ready to embrace Scalley and see what he can do. I worry Whitt’s offensive struggles have caught up to him, and will be a continuing struggle for this team until he hangs it up. I would love for this season to prove me wrong, but we will see.

7-5 sounds reasonable to me. While we might be better, I think it’s also possible we could be even worse than that. Last year was abysmal, and I’m still not convinced the changes we made will actually make us a better team this year. Beck and Dampier both have potential, but let’s be honest, stealing the best of New Mexico is far from a sure thing for success.

They don’t ever bother trying to pretend by showing the ping pong balls drop. It all happens in a back room and we just have to take their word for it.

Is the portal sustainable as it currently stands? No. Every player essentially becoming a free agent every year, each of which is chasing an NIL deal is not sustainable.

Could changes be made that could make it sustainable? Absolutely. Multi year contracts would be a huge step forward. Changing rules about the timing of the portal and when NIL deals can be signed would also likely help. Lots of things can be done to fix this mess.

Will changes be made? Hard to say. Unfortunately, NCAA leadership gives me little faith they will solve this problem, and without a strong central governing body, it might be hard to accomplish.

It’s wild to me that we will essentially be an entirely new team next year. I trust in Alex and am hopeful he’s getting the guys he wants to be able to complete his vision.

But I wonder how much of it is Alex telling old team members they need to move on, versus old team members trying to chase greener pastures.

The fact that the name is “Phil Mecrevis” (aka fill my crevice) tells you this dude is a troll.

The question of the day is it a Ute fan trying to stir up BYU hate, or is it a BYU fan just being a BYU fan…

Either way, while I normally try to preach tolerance of our wayward brothers to the south, the fact that I know that sentiments like these are real among BYU fans reminds me of just why it is so many people (myself included) love to see BYU lose.

It’s interesting. I’m using the iOS App and I updated the app like you told us to do. When I am not logged in, I can access all of the threads without issue including the retzlaff thread (and it is indeed much quicker). But when I log in, then the Retzlaff thread will crash the app, but it’s not the same kind of crash as before where I just get kicked out, but instead it freezes on a white screen.

But thank you Tony for all of your work on this!

While I agree that if Cam had stayed healthy we could have been incredible, the reality is that when Cam got injured, our offense went to crap, and I think Whitt bears a lot of the blame for that. Arguably Brandon Rose and maybe even Luke Bottari should have been ahead of Isaac Wilson on the depth chart, but they weren’t – that’s on Whittingham. Both Cam and Rose played multiple quarters with season ending injuries (in which both cases it was obvious that they were significantly injured and cost us the game) – that’s on Whittingham. And at the end of the season when we needed a new offensive coordinator, we ended up with our 3rd choice (Beck), and from what I hear, that was because of Whittingham too. I heard from an insider that Arbuckle was very interested in coming to be an offensive coordinator for Scalley, but when Whitt announced he was coming back, Arbuckle bounced to Oklahoma, and rightfully so. While that may or may not be true, I do fully believe Whitts presence made it harder (not easier), to find a worthwhile offensive coordinator, and I continue to worry that Whitts style of coaching will continue to hurt us on offense.

Chinngiskhaan: I appreciate the “negativity” or pessimism, or whatever it is people want to call it. It brings balance to the fact that some fans are eternally optimistic, and I like seeing the different viewpoints.

However, if you are wondering why you get downvoted so routinely, yes, I think pessimism is part of it (which is just the nature of the beast on a fan board), but I also think it’s that you often come across as defensive. After you make a point, you come back and make multiple more comments to anyone who disagrees, and do so in such a way that it very much looks like a battle of “I’m right, you’re wrong”. Thankfully for you, you often have facts to back up your viewpoint. But unfortunately for you, engaging others in that way doesn’t typically win friends or build camaraderie.

So in my eyes: keep bringing your “negative” viewpoints, and keep bringing the data you have to support those viewpoints. I like those. But don’t feel like you have to fight everyone who disagrees, because there will always be those that disagree, and the fight is honestly just not worth it.
